Noise why are you trying to run Amiga floppies? You got a local source?

No. I just love Amiga stuff. And have found that there's a lot more floppy releases than CD. I guess I just like having the option of buying some handsome looking Amiga big box game if I want to.

In looking for an internal Amiga 3.5 drive, I came across this controller for adding a 5.25 drive to your pc:

EDIT: I figured it out. I need the PCI controller ( http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/cat ... rrency=USD ) and then a standard PC floppy drive, which I am sure I have a few around already. But yeah, that PCI card isn't cheap.

If you can use a standard PC floppy drive, then why do you need a Catweasel? Is there nobody out there who's hacked up a driver interface for a USB floppy drive that UAE can read from?

Well, I ended up deciding to wait and see if any sales would happen in November/December. You know, just in case.

It was only $269 brand new on the Newegg ebay store.

Why are you getting a Xeon CPU? That's for server setups, do you have something in mind that requires this? Going to be doing a lot of protein folding? or Calculating digits of Pi? Building transposition tables for your AI chess agent? Or building 7+ piece databases? Compressing hours of broadcast/4K+ video? Because if you're not ... you should just get a desktop CPU in your price range. Video games don't need it. (I have a AMD FX-8320 at stock speed. Only compiling lightmaps in Unity and compressing long RAW audio into 7z files have utilized it at 100%. No video game has broken 40%, and there's no HyperThreading.)

Rule of thumb, spend more of your budget on the GPU than the CPU if video games are your target. Any $200 CPU is going to destroy any game out there. They're just not that demanding on the CPU.

Keep in mind an AMD CPU will be $100 less, and $100 more for the GPU which gets you into GTX 970 and R9 390 territory.

Crono, that's a finished build so I think he's keeping the CPU.

Well its like owning a dumptruck and only using it to get your groceries.

Xeons are server chips, made for processing lots of data consistently. Running games on them is not a big deal, but its not what they are for. They are made for crunching numbers, lots and lots of numbers. Thats why they have huge l3 caches, hyperthreading, and even mutli processor.

Nintendork666, are you just using it for gaming, or do you do heavy cad/adobe work?

If it were me and I was only really doing gaming/web browsing, I would just get a decent i5 from the past couple of years and jack up my GPU budget accordingly.

Xeon CPU and R9 380 seem like a bit of a mismatch.
