Hardest Old School Game Ever?

Hey everyone, I'm putting together a video and need the "Hardest Games Ever". The systems are pretty much everything pre-N64. The only two games I have on my list so far are Ninja Gaiden (NES) and Phantasy Star II (try finishing it without the hint guide). any help adding to my list would be greatly appreciated.

Contra was always hard for me, SNK fighting game bosses (almost all of them)

Ghouls N Ghosts and Super Ghouls N Ghosts especially were both extremely hard.

I love them all the same though.

Totally agree, I can still beat it without the code or continues, it's all bout practice.

Athena for nes, although it qualifies more as "unplayable" than "hard"
