Vacation!

We're waiting out a layover in LA right now, but in just a couple of hours we'll be on our way to Japan.
Wow! Have fun. First time visit? And how long will you be there?
Thanks! Yeah, first time for me. Though my girlfriend has been a couple of times, and lived here for a year some years ago. Staying a little over a week, we'll be home on the 26th.
Bon Voyage

Sigh... I get so frustrated with peoole some days. I don't know why I try some times. A friend of a friend was getting all worked up because they were going through a hard time and someone said that they would pray for them.

They went on a tangent about how selfish and stupid people are for saying it because they believe in a god and how disrespectful they are for saying they will pray for them.

They kept going on and on about how all Christians can't face the facts that they are not fit to exist in society and should be wiped out.

I called them out on it and said their statements were unfair and genrealizing of people. I told them that no one man is better than another and you can't change the world and change people with hate and bigotry. I told him I knew he was a good person and I don't know why he would represent himself as a hateful and mean person.

The responded with the typical, "YOU DON'T KNOW ME!" and going on about how for all I knew he was a racist pedophile who rapes children in his basement and how I am just like all the other sheep in the world.

All I could do was sigh and say that I guess I knew him now, and that he was a sad person who has some issues to go through.

Why do people hate so much? Why do people respond to hate with hate? Look... I do not adhere to any religious belief, but people should be treated with respect and love no matter who they are. It just hurts me to see such extremism without any care for people.

I mean, this kid hates religion because when he was 9 he had cancer and people said they would pray for him... sigh.

That's like, lacking in basic decency. That's a level beyond the people who get pissed because someone said Merry Christmas to them when they don't celebrate the holiday.

Yeah it was down right despicable and when I responded rationally and calmly, they responded back with this crazed venom. My wife hates me for getting involved in these conversations, but I can't let a person belive this world is a shitty place and filled with endless extremism. It isn't and what extremism there is should not be handled with violence and hate

Bah! It can exist, but I would rather talk to them like a human being. We live in a world where we are shaped by the environment around us. If we surround ourselves with extremists, we ourselves become like them.

If you leave yourself to your own devices, the world can become incredibly warped and absurd.

People need calm, rational and loving people around them and in turn will be more calm, rational and loving.

It really bothers me how many people go straight to the "I'll pray for you," but I would never throw it in someone's face. I'd merely suffer it in silence and bitch about it privately later : )

I think a great many people say "I'll pray for you" to make themselves feel better. And I guess once you realize that knee-jerk response is as much or more for them than it is for you, it helps deal with the assumptions embedded in it more easily.

Conversely, you could view it as, "I care enough to pray for you," which for some folks would be an honor.

Not a religious person and I see it as this... unless they say it because they learned my baby listens to Queen.

Oh, no, then it's closer to, "I pray your baby is at least half as awesome as Freddy Mercury."
