On the game front, I just wanted to note that I beat Costume Quest yesterday. It is a charming RPG, and a love letter to Halloween. Moreover, my children loved it, and I suspect I will be goaded into playing its DLC ("Grubbins on Ice") tonight.

I watched, and made a friend watch, Phantasm for the umpteenth time. Check out this cool poster:

This is my favorite movie of all time. The atmosphere is unparalleled, the music is killer, and all the characters feel like family (even the Tall Man). If anyone hasn't seen this movie, remedy that immediately.

Phantasm is rad. I love it. Good choice, TSTR.
Another movie you should check out is John Dies at the End. It is from the same director; it is just a trippy as Phantasm; and it also has a pretty amazing poster:

How did I not know about this movie!? I enjoyed the book quite a lot as well as it's sequel, This Book Is Full of Spiders (which is also quite good). I like phantasm but to be honest the theme song is better than the movie. After watching #1 you're like Wtf did I just watch. The movie is all over the place. I get the movie was a dream from the director and it shows, you have elements from everything. I enjoyed 2, but it all feels like a bad b movie series. There was never meant to be any sequels, hence they ruin the ending of the first.

Fun fact: Gene Siskel was a fan of the original Carnosaur. Someday I'll probably end up seeing at least the original on laserdisc...Ack wrote:Carnosaur 2

Still better than the first one though...which admittedly isn't hard. Video footage of noiseredux defecating in a bucket makes for a more compelling movie. I don't recommend the Carnosaur series to anybody unless you feel like laughing at something.
Tonight I decided to rewatch Garfield's Halloween Adventure which is probably one of my top 10 Halloween TV specials. There's a part of me that hates Garfield as representing the most commercial affront to art. But dang, that cat can hit my nostalgia-buttons and the Halloween special is probably the peak of the franchise. I like how it actually has supernatural horror elements; when I was a kid, it was scary. It has it's comedy too, but the horror sequence feels so different from the rest of the Garfield-universe that it can really take the unsuspecting viewer by surprise.
Also, I don't know if I'm the only one with a deep love of the monster cereals (Count Chocula, Frankenberry, Boo Berry) but this year Target has exclusive boxes that have cut-out castle parts on the back that let you BUILD THE MONSTERS' CASTLE. So of course I bought six boxes so I'll be able to make two castles. THE ONLY PROBLEM is that I don't really like sugary cereal in the morning. So I made this recipe for Monster Cereal Munch which turns the cereal into a way-too-sweet snack. Still sweeter than I'm used to, but not bad for a non-breakfast food.

the first time I watched Phantasm, I didn't get it. I loved the music. I thought the movie made no sense. But... I wanted to see it again. Subsequent viewings showed me that this movie is insanely good. I still don't know if I "get it," but it's awesome.

Hey noise, did you know that Eli Roth's Knock Knock is effectively a remake of the movie Death Game?

Yes, but I didn't know that until after I saw it and wrote that blurb about it. I found that out later when I was reading up on it. Usually a day or so after I watch a movie I'll read up on it. I found that pretty interesting. I haven't seen Death Game, but apparently it's more like the same setup but not exactly a remake. I figure I'll see it at some point though.
