I loved Fargo! I'm not quite decided, but I think it might be my favorite performance by Billy Bob Thornton. Michael Key and Jordon Peele (naturally) put in some great comedic performances as well, but it's always fun to see those dudes together. I'm pumped that season 2 has started, but to be honest I think I might need to hold off before diving in to it (at least if it's a binge watcher like season 1).Stark wrote:I think this looks really cool and I like Cillian Murphy. So what have you guys been watching lately?

Agreed. It seems to be one of the first shows where the creators had the complete story in mind from the beginning. It is quite a contrast from shows where the creators seem to not know where the story is going. There are many shows I've watched that start off awesome and then slowly degrade as they pile up more seasons. Lost is a prime example, I think. Great original idea, great pilot/first season, but the rest seems like they were just making it up as they went along.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Just finished up Breaking Bad, and IMO, that was a near perfect ending.

I'll let you know. Anything in the late 1860's through 1920's catches my eye, so I'm planning on just going ahead and watching, its only two seasons I believe.Stark wrote:I think this looks really cool and I like Cillian Murphy. And Fargo is great, I would definitely suggest it.

Lost and also Battlestar Galactica are two of the best examples. Ron Moore even admits in some of his episode commentaries that there were just basically making it up as they went along.Lazer wrote:Agreed. What amazes me is shows based off a book or comic book where they change so much that eventually it feels like they don't know where they are going, despite having had the books as a road map. They have the plan right in front of them in writing and they still eff it up

We couldn't get into Peaky Blinders. Tried an ep and a half, just didn't connect. Nothing particular stood out - which...is probably the problem.
If looking for period shows like that - if you haven't already: Hell on Wheels and Copper are both fantastic.

Au contraire. Babylon 5 was pretty well-planned from the beginning. There were a few curve-balls, but they were resolved pretty well. Breaking Bad didn't break any new ground in storytelling. It just told that story with good writing, good actors, and a good budget.

Hell on Wheels is common stuff for me. I watch it every time its on. Copper sounds interesting, and I'll definitely look at that. Had ancestors who lived in the Points for a while, so that area captures my imagination.mjmjr25 wrote:We couldn't get into Peaky Blinders. Tried an ep and a half, just didn't connect. I'll still give Peaky Blinders a try just for shits and giggles.

And now we have Game of Thrones. Excellent source material... that they have run out of. But, they know how the story will end? So they are going to do their own version that will come out before the source material. Fuck that show

Well I don't have a lot of time, so good to know. I've heard good things about Hell on Wheels so might just have to do that one.mjmjr25 wrote:We couldn't get into Peaky Blinders. Tried an ep and a half, just didn't connect. Nothing particular stood out - which...is probably the problem.
