I love the history aspect of TR, maybe we should make a new thread with a "Important Games According to Racketboy" timeline. We can then use that to assist for future TR lists.

On a side note, Golden Axe Warrior is the first ever Zelda, or zeldalike, game I beat. Thanks to TR.
A chronological history of gaming, separated by console and pc would be great as a thread! Great idea SB!

I'm visualized a timeline with the upper portion (or left side if vertical) listing significant console games and the lower portion (right side) focusing on arcade and PC stuff.

Well if ever you want help with the PC side, I can definitely provide some insight in that department! I really think this could be a great project to discuss on the forum and eventually put it up on the site.

On topic about how Together Retro gets planned as a whole, I do believe that all users should have some say, be it in the free for all or in the poll format. The most important thing that everyone can do to help this program is to set your egos aside and just go with the flow. Let's take a deep breath and realize that there are numerous years to get a passion game of yours on the list. Heck, this is the first time that one of the games I have suggested was even considered in Star Control 2 and how long have I been here?

People need to nourish. The community is a plant. You don't let a plant grow by tugging at it. We should be enthusing and encouraging others to experience and love games, not poo-poo it. We all know our stuff, we all have particular tastes and at no point will Together Retro scratch our backs 12 months in a row. That is where you need to open yourself to a person who is passionate about the project to take your hand and show you how to appreciate a game like Harvest Moon, or Star Control 2, or Daytona...

It isn't about being right, or being in the spotlight with your picks. It is about making sure that people have fun and enjoy themselves. It is by being active and loving of the game and of the people playing those games.

I don't pick these games, because I want to be patted on the back. I pick them, because I see the enjoyment of those titles and see how other people could talk about them and enjoy them as well. That is why I concede when people bring up games like Oddworld, or Alone in the Dark, because I see why they are choices. Sure Alone in the Dark is not a choice I would make, but I am just going to go along for the ride.

We also make these picks, based on what we are interested in playing now, but some of these titles won't be played for more than a year from now and your disinterest, may turn into an interest. Maybe we could set up the Together Retro thread for a title a week or two in advance to start drudging up interest ahead of time for users on the forum?

You're absolutely right Bogus. Let's make it good without all the bad.

Also SB's idea would work out really nice.

I sincerely hope I've never been a parade shitter. That's not snark. I don't remember doing it and don't think I would, but I apologize if I ever did.

Question for fastbilly!

I didn't know this happened. I can't even begin to fathom why there would be hate mail over Snatcher, or any other game. That's nuts.

If you're willing to tell the story, what was the problem?

Snatcher?! Unless it was significantly cheaper in 2009 I wouldn't be thrilled about a game I could never afford being chosen.

brainstorming some arcade-style games, and keeping in mind that digital distribution helps make things cheap and available, it occurs to me that while a lot of you are hip on what's available on PSN/XBLA/VC, some of you may not be aware of some PC re-releases.

For instance, though not on Steam or GOG, the DotEmu store has an impressive Irem collection full of both obscure and classics alike for $15 (and I think most of the games are available separately as well) that includes:

Kung-Fu Master
Vigilante
Ninja Spirit
R-Type Leo
Air Duel
Battle Chopper
Cosmic Cop
Dragon Breed
Gunforce
Gunforce 2
Hammerin’ Harry
Image Fight
Legend of Hero Tonma
Mystic Riders
Undercover Cops
In the Hunt
Superior Soldiers
Blade Master

(Unrelated, by DotEmu also published that Double Dragon trilogy earlier this year which is on Steam/GOG and has online co-op, but meh.)

I had also mentioned Puyo Puyo because there's games on everything I can think of it seems... NES, SMS, GG, NGPC, PS1, PS2, GameCube, TG16.... and got weird ports like Mean Bean Machine on Genesis, Kirby's Avalanche on SNES, Super Foul Egg on Amiga, Qwirks on PC...

(Even funnier is the Amiga port of Dr. Mario)

Did we never do Tetris? I mean, Tetris!

SNK is also infamous for porting their stuff everywhere. Most popular SNK games will be found on PSN/XBLA/VC/Steam, and many of them have implemented online co-op. So fighting games can see us fighting each other. Metal Slug was a great pick because of this feature.

I'd also mention that any Genesis game that's on the PS3/360 collection and overlapping w/ the Steam collections (which is most of the games really) is a good pick. Again, cheap and easy to get.

Technically it was. Snatcher was going for much closer to $100 in 2009(it even hit $70 in January 2010) than it is now.

It's no secret. If it is a secret, I'll spoil it and say members leave usually due to a mod. Too damn many mods on this site, and it is off putting, especially when you have mods that are judgmental and add nothing to discussion.

When I was at viewaskew, we had one site-admin, and one mod*. And that was for a site that at least had triple the members this site does. No stupid ass club of mods that some members think elephant walk with each other once a year.

Not much discussion. Posts. Pokes. "I don't agree with you"'s.

Plenty of arguments though, usually started by guess who? An insulting mod.

Sorry to break it to you, and stay in denial if you'd wish, but we need less mods, more content, and it wouldn't hurt if people responded to posts after actually reading the previous post.

And we need more TSTR. He brings the cheeze.

*I'd take a poll of who should be the Moderator. Through my several years posting here, I'd be team Popo. Never met the guy, may have never even PM'd him, but he's never flown off the handle, he uses sound judgement, and he doesn't use this forum to express his personal views. I've disagreed with him a few times, but he is level headed and is talented at being able to read the tone of people's posts.

But as of now...Too many cooks in the kitchen.

if we can do something as simple as "pick out some games to play" and keep this thread on topic, I'd be more than happy to leave the kitchen considering I haven't cooked in like 2 years anyway.
