Howlongtobeat is very unreliable unless the sample size is large. I've played many RPGs where I'm 15 hours +/- the Howlongtobeat averages.

I've found that the large sample sizes (the averages that are blue instead of say red) fall very closely to my own completion times. Even for RPGs. I agree your mileage varies greatly with small sample sizes though.

That said, GameFAQ's "Length" times on their game pages are always grossly over inflated in my experience. Far less accurate than HLTB.

I was thinking that star ocean was a JRPG with a medium lenght about 30 hours top... nope, how long to beat says is about 48 hours and considering i like to grind a bit for bosses and i like to collect chest's i can stimate that this will take me... forever. I think i made a huge mistake

I would say 48 hours is actually pretty light. I beat the PS1 version recently and I think I was close to 60 hours. The later bosses especially the final boss are incredibly difficult and you need to grind a ton for them or do some stat maxing.

And to do everything in the game, including going through the game with the other character, go through the extra areas and collect all the voice samples, that could take anywhere between 100 - 200 hours.

Star Ocean is very much an Enix game and it goes on forever. It's an incredibly game that I got really addicted to with so many tiny intricacies about it, but it is a hearty of a meal.

That's why i barely play any JRPG's, they go on and on and on (actually i think i only played like 5 in my whole life). I did though on using a walkthrough so i could use the characters in the right way and having a easier time with the bosses, and to be specific is Start Ocean: The last Hope International for the PS3 if anyone has any experience with it.

So far HLTB always has show a good aproximate from the games i have played, but maybe this could be diferent since is a JRPG.

Im diggin the game but not sure if i could dig it for... 30+ hours.

Maybe people are counting getting a game over and re-starting from 1-1, rather than estimating the length of a successful run.
