Re: Together Retro 2016 Nomination Thread OMG!
Maybe next year we should just type every game suggestion made into random.org and random generate a list of 12.

Ha, next year I am thinking I should just pick the list.alienjesus wrote:Maybe next year we should just type every game suggestion made into random.org and random generate a list of 12.
Which means Weaponlord.

Re: Together Retro 2016 Nomination Thread OMG!
The sticking point (or mine, I guess) is that the entire list was and continues to be rushed. We still aren't nominating or discussing games. Repeating from yesterday - within 6 hours there were "front runners" based on half a dozen members and within 48 hours there was a baseline list.Ack wrote: Really, the sticking point seems to be KOTOR, Pokemon, and Harvest Moon.
If noise, or Ack, or anyone else is in charge of TR and wants to pick a list or have votes or whatever else, that's fine. That wasn't how the THIS thread was laid out. This thread suggested we were going to nominate and discuss options. If you weren't online last Tuesday...during business/school hours; when you logged in to see what's going on - you saw a list already compiled. I do the majority of my posting on weekends - as do many of our less active members. If we want community input then run it that way. If you don't - that's fine too, one of you pick a list and that's what the list is.

Re: Together Retro 2016 Nomination Thread OMG!
I typically don't get involved in these discussions as I rarely participate in TR. My backlog of games I know I want to play and games I play for RPGamer is such that I have trouble getting into these. I also typically do not much enjoy platformers or shmups. But this was a jump in and woah lots of stuff going on.
I am not a big Harvest Moon fan, but I actually think it will be a good TR game. It is fairly light hearted and casual. Easy to play. Kotor is a great game I had been pushing for in TR this last go around.

If you want to do it, go ahead. I quit.mjmjr25 wrote:The sticking point (or mine, I guess) is that the entire list was and continues to be rushed. We still aren't nominating or discussing games. Dude, it's only mid-October. If there's something already nominated that you think doesn't fit, than nominate something else. Just because people already put together 12 games doesn't mean they're set in stone. If you think you have a better option, bring it up.mjmjr25 wrote:The sticking point (or mine, I guess) is that the entire list was and continues to be rushed....
Personally, I think it's a rather nice mix of games.

Maybe you haven't read the whole thread. List is set; some people have already started "work" on getting the games.Michi wrote:Dude, it's only mid-October. I think the community should have a good discussion of what TR should be for the site going forward. I'm not sure why doing so is that traumatic. Forum membership and activity are drastically down and it isn't one of the typical summer ebbs - it's been this way a good while. I've seen dozens of active members on this site leave to other forums. They come back in occasionally to check the market or play in a tourney, but that's it. They are active on the other sites. We've lost them, likely for good. This is one of the few things we do that makes us unique to other sites. Why having the conversation is so painful is beyond me, but I think it's worth having regardless and I will continue as such.Ack wrote:If you want to do it, go ahead. I quit.

Mike, list wasn't set. That's why I said "as of this moment..." - I was just keeping things organized up to that moment. I never announced a finished calendar. As far as I'm concerned, nominations have remained open the entire time.
I apologize if it was taken as a finished calendar.
As I've also said countless times in this thread, I honestly don't care what games we play. I want the most people to be happy and participating.

Re: Together Retro 2016 Nomination Thread OMG!
I would agree with this as well. I'm probably the noobie-est member posting in this thread, but I was a long time lurker before jumping in with both feet. If someone were to ask me, I would say that TR is much more about the discussion revolving around classic games than it is about which specific games appear on the calendar. Heck, it's even fun to razz on an occasional stinker (ahem ... Daikatananoiseredux wrote:As I've also said countless times in this thread, I honestly don't care what games we play. For that matter I've always enjoyed the nomination threads themselves for this reason. Despite some occasional drama, they're always good for some lively discussion of classic games.
Re: Together Retro 2016 Nomination Thread OMG!
Actually, I did. Started last Tuesday when noise made the thread. And I read, repeatedly, that the list was still up for discussion. The fact that some people have already started picking up games after a week doesn't mean anything other than those people have jumped the gun. The only reason I've seen a nomination get outright shot down is because you'd already done the same game, or similar, some year past.mjmjr25 wrote:Maybe you haven't read the whole thread. Like I said, I think it's a fine list, but I wouldn't be opposed to further discussion. In the end, no one is going to be 100% happy with all 12 games.
Well put.noiseredux wrote:As I've also said countless times in this thread, I honestly don't care what games we play. I want the most people to be happy and participating.
