does it? Maybe I'm confusing it with VF4? I never played past 3, but I know that one of the VF games on PS3 was 1p only which I thought was idiotic.TSTR wrote:Since when does VF5 not have online?

The first release didn't have it, you right. Final Showdown does though.

Polls are officially up.
This is also a post to declare that I am abstaining from voting since I created the polls.

Thanks Ack. This was a good idea to get some community input.Ack wrote:Polls are officially up.

Gonna be that guy - Pokemon is the best-selling RPG series of all time, and we've never covered it either. It is massively significant culturally, as well as within the realm of gaming.noiseredux wrote:Although I really want to play KOTOR, I agree with this as well.Final Fantasy? Dragon Quest? Seems odd that this club hasn't touched either of these huge series.
Frankly, I think there are very few game series with the impact of Pokémon, and we've covered several of them before (see: Mario)
Also, I'm not sure where we've got this idea that the games need to be 'important' from. Have you seen the first year of Together Retro list? Games like Jet Set Radio, Ristar, Kid Icarus, Lunar, Marble Madness, Toejam and Earl and Xenogears are all great games, but they're not really particularly historically significant.
I don't see why Harvest Moon or KOTOR can be dismissed as 'not important enough' when even in its outset, we deemed a game like Solar Jetman worthy of play in Together Retro.

Good point. I got that sentiment from browsing that old thread, but the lists haven't always been reflective of that idea. I feel like that should change, though. And yeah, Pokeymans is pretty significant too, not knocking.

I'm not crazy about this voting or list rewriting at all. I think we should have proceeded with what we had, learned from our mistakes, and then set up a more proper selection system (with a timeline, perhaps) for the 2017 games.

Re: Together Retro 2016 Nomination Thread OMG!
I submitted votes, but I think I'm gonna leave it at that. People can decide on whatever games they want.
I suggest games every year that I think would be interesting to play, not necessarily even for me. I've beaten Pokémon a dozen times and I've put a bunch of time into Harvest Moon before too. I just thought they were cool games worthy of discussion.
Really, though, this thread is all about playing along together. If people won't participate in those games (as people have previously said) then fuck it, I'll play them on my own another time. We can play Virtua Fighter or Daytona or whatever if that's what'll get people playing, because I'd rather have a Together Retro with games I find dull that everyones playing than a Together Retro with games I think are fun or quirky or interesting that gets ignored.
But for this exact reason, I really think historical significance shouldn't be a factor we consider. We've had tons of discussion for games like Zoop which have absolutely no lasting legacy whatsoever, but are just fun. Who gives a shit if a game was a pioneer of it's genre when it came out in 1992 if no-one on Racketboy in 2016 plays the damn thing.
I don't want a year full of Populous because everyone agreed it was an important and significant game in it's genre, but no one wanted to actually try it!
