Problems with Sega CD Model 2...
Problems with Sega CD Model 2...
Alright well, here's the story. Recently I got lucky and through a few thrift stores, I picked up 2 Sega CDs, both Model 2. Neither of them will work. The odd part is, neither will either Genesis that are hooked up to the base. I have already replaced the fuse in one of the CDs, but still no luck. I'm guessing this problem is on my part. I feel pretty miserable that I can't even hook-up a Sega CD properly to make it work. What type of Adaptors do I need? Do I need both of them (Genesis + CD) on at once for it to work? Do I need an S-Video cable? I know that I can't have a genesis cart in at start up, etc etc. I'm not sure what else it could be. Anyone have any tips for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problems with Sega CD Model 2...
make sure the cd unit is firmly pressed into the genesis. the connection can be picky. wiggle them to see if the sega cd boots up. make sure you have the proper AC adapters plugged into both units. you do not need Svideo or anything like that, any connection from the genesis to the tv will do. if things are working normally (the systems are hooked up and working properly) you would power on the genesis with no game in the game slot and after a second the sega cd will turn on and the loading screen will appear on your tv.

Re: Problems with Sega CD Model 2...
Don't feel bad for not knowing how to hook these robo-bastards up, they are a pain.
Adapters needed:
Genesis Model 2 and 32X take 10V Output adapters so make sure your using that only on the Genesis (If it's model 2 your using), I think it's a Sega CD fuse death sentence if you mistake it.
Genesis Model 1 and both Sega CD's use a 9V Output.
After you make sure your model of Genesis works plug it firmly into the Sega CD and hook up the appropriate adapters. The red and white stereo Av's just need two way cables and the Genesis just has to be hooked up with it's AV type or RF if that's what you have (Also if it's model 1 Genesis you'll need a 3.5mm mixing cable to have correct sound, but it should work without it)
When you turn it on it should just boot to the Sega CD menu if there is no cart in it.
If your doing everything right then there is the chance that you didn't repair the fuse properly, you might have blow the new fuse by accident, or maybe there is something else wrong all together.
Sorry if this might be too lengthy! Good luck
Also- I've heard that sometimes the contacts that connect into the Sega CD from the Genesis can sometimes be dirty so you could try cleaning them, it could also be that the Sega CD contacts are too dirty.
