was looking for a cable that might improve the picture quality of my NES a bit. Right now I'm just using some cheap RCA cables that came with a DVD player I bought a few years back.

Nope.
The weakest link here is the NES. The only way you'd get anything better is if you converted the NES to output RGB and then use component cables.

A little off topic, But if you used an Xbox for NES emulation you would get an awesome picture and have access to several graphic filters. I've retired several of my older systems (NES,SNES,N64,TG-16,NeoGeo,SegaCD,Genesis,Master System,Intellivision,Coleco,Several Ataris,comodore64 and a few more) to storage because of the Xbox.

I've been considering it, but wasn't sure where to begin. Just check Craigslist, I found a few around me for between 50 to 200 dollars. Make sure that the one you get has XBMC installed on it, That will make things a lot smoother for you.

I have found that most composite cables work about the same regardless quality/gold connectors/manufacturer. I have had a crappy one that came with a DVD player that had bad connectors out of the box though.

Yeah, high priced cables just aren't worth it unless you are pushing the limits on long-distance cable runs and absolutely need the extra insulation.
