Cardboard cases

Post by RemyC »

Did the guy who thought that cardboard cases would be a good idea get fired?
Im staring at my genesis games, and I'm curious about the cardboard cases. Ive recently noticed that games had prints in both the cardboard, and plastic cases. Why not just stick to one or the other? Better yet, why even put them in cardboard cases?

God those cases are evil. I wouldn't even call them cases. It's like the equivalent of wearing a potato sack because you can't afford proper clothing.

I believe some games came in both because somewhere around 94-95 sega started kinda switching over. So some games were stilling being produced after the switch thus made the move to shitboard. If a game came in both (pacman 2) I make sure I get the one with the real case. Worse yet, at some point over the years the inserts for all my 32X games got trashed and all I have is the outer sleeve, so I've spent god knows how much time trying to come up with a solution to make them look good, I finally discovered that 32X games fit in EA tall cart boxes so I'm gonna buy up a bunch of those and reprint the 32X art and hide the cardboard boxes away.

Since I've been casing everything using the Cover Project I don't care too much that things are done in cardboard boxes, except for the obvious fact that some of them are hard to track down anymore to get good scans of.

He probably got a bonus for saving the company money.

Same thing happened with the NeoGeo Pocket Color. I've got beautiful clamshells for some games, crappy cardboard for others.

And I've still got a beef with Nintendo, as my retro collection would look amazing if they had used plastic cases. Instead, like most kids, I trashed the carboard boxes. Even if I wanted to save them, they still wouldn't have survived.
