The movie is a lot different from what Chrichton wrote, who had little to almost nothing to do with the movie's script. In fact the movie does a better job at saying "Don't mess with Mother Nature" than the book. One of those instances where the movie is better than the book.

I love JURASSIC WORLD, and especially how they hang the clocks throughout the movie.
I think Chrichton's strength throughout his books is to take a preposterous idea (killer gorillas, bio-engineered dinosaurs, time-traveling archaeologists) and make it seem plausible. Then he adds a group of characters who are varying degrees of jerks.

Needless to say, I loved Chrichton as a teenager.

Me too, and not for just his books.

Miss Black. An early twenty year old teacher who was slim and petite with flowing black hair down to her lower back, blue eyes, and lips so plump and pout that she could have made any lipstick company a few extra billion dollars. She also wore v-neck sweaters and she was...gifted.

One day she asked me to speak with her after class, and I didn't care if I was in trouble or not. After class Miss Black complimented me on my speaking and that she admired my love of reading. She then handed me Jurassic Park and said "I thought you would enjoy this".

Right as rain I had to tell ALL of my classmates about it the next day, and by "it" I mean getting a book from THE Miss Black*.

Good book. Great movie.

*Side note on Miss Black... You don't notice everything as a kid, and as an adult as well. But I have zero doubt of saying Miss Black would get stoned right around 2:30. She would take a "five minute break" come back to class, and I kid you not play Milli Vananlli on her cassette player and say "Put your head on your desks, or draw. It's time to be mellow".

A pleasant indie surprise in 2015 and I've only had very few of those this year. Great running time too for the story it tells.

We had a teacher very similar to that. Our 9th grade English teacher. No nip slip, but someone did sneak into the classroom during the lunch period and exchanged the video cassette of, "The Crucible," with a porno. That was an interesting class period.

I always really liked H20. It does a good job of feeling like 'the third movie' in the series. As much as I really like the sequels w/ Jamie (Danielle Harris) and all that, it's cool to go back to the Laurie Strode stuff. It also manages to make the series feel comfortable as a 90's (read: post-Scream) slasher. In fact it even has a brief appearance of Scream 2 on TV (Buffy <3). Also, the end - and I mean the last like 5 seconds of the movie - is absolutely brilliant. I wish more slashers had the balls to end in such a fashion.

The Entity is crazy. This is a 1982 movie about a woman who is repeatedly assaulted in her bedroom by a poltergeist. Yes, you know what I mean. As silly as that might sound, it's a pretty creepy and disturbing film. It's a bit too long in my opinion, but it's definitely a unique one. It goes into a lot of 'is this real or is this woman crazy' stuff. BTW, the movie is based on a book which was based on a real life case of a woman who claimed this was happening to her. There's an Unsolved Mysteries episode about the real woman.

I think my parents had to sign some waiver for me to watch ROMEO AND JULIET in 9th grade English, as Juliet goes full frontal.

Our teacher was in the back of the room, oblivious and alseep, and I ran to the VCR and Paused the movie right at full two titties.

Not just with that movie too, anytime a teacher left the room or fell asleep during a movie I would pause it as to drag it out as long as possible.

Went and watched THE INTERN with the wife, thought it was really well done, the characters were charming and likeable and there were some funny and/or touching moments throughout. Reminds me of those older flicks where it's just life playing out on the screen and it's up to the actors to make it memorable, like WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING.

Attack

Jack Palance was perhaps a bit too melodramatic in the final cellar scene but otherwise this was as good as it gets in the 50s WWII genre (ie primitive effects, unauthentic vehicles, sanitised violence)

Well this is the kind of bullshit that undermines the scientific community. NASA, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye the fake science guy.. All sellouts.

I was genuinely going to watch this, but now will wait for a free stream instead.

Actually I think it's more that these guys understand the importance of film to generate interest in their work. You'd be surprised how many people in the US want to kill off our space program. A well-timed release alongside a movie generates interest and helps to keep them funded. You may think they're sell outs, but they've realized the reality of the situation and want to ensure they have the public support to generate funds for their research and experiments.

Smart Money

Despite being two of the greatest gangster icons of the 1930s at Warner Bros, Edward G. Robinson and James Cagney only made one film together, in 1931. Released six months after Robinson's classic Little Caesar and three months after Cagney's classic The Public Enemy, this movie focuses on Robinson as a small town barber with a gift for gambling whose best buddy, Cagney, wants to help reach the big time. Robinson goes to the City, gets ripped off by a few hoods posing as big time gamblers, and then devises a plan to get revenge. He does with the help of his friends but keeps going, becoming a rich and famous gambler himself until finally the District Attorney uses a woman and Robinson's weakness for blonds to bring him down.

It's a shame this was Robinson and Cagney's only chance to work together, as it just isn't that interesting of a film. It loses its way after Robinson's revenge is complete and devolves into just another early-1930s crime movie despite the quality of the stars and their wonderful performances. Really, the second half is just build up to a "crime is bad" kind of pathetic ending that Hollywood was being forced to adopt despite having already turned the DA into a villain. Heck, the DA basically extorts a woman accused of blackmail to do it and then twists the letter of the law to bring Robinson in. It's a dirty trick that plays out but is exactly the kind of thing the Motion Picture Production Code ends up put in place to stop.

Still, it is fun to see just how much banter guys like Robinson and Cagney could get away with at the time. There is a scene where the two men discuss an attractive woman in silence using only gestures and facial expressions. I think at some point in his life, every guy has had that exact conversation.

It's also worth noting that Boris Karloff has a minor role in this movie. Frankenstein would be released only five months after this, turning him into a horror icon.
