I don't think trying to rationalize by arguing an arbitrary, hypothetical, kid wouldn't like franchise x, y, or z, is particularly valid because no one has any way of knowing that.

What I do know, is when I was a kid, children my age were playing things like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, and Nobonaga's Ambition. And kids in Japan did play Fire Emblem on NES.

It wouldn't be inconceivable to discover some 10 year old whom loves Fire Emblem on 3DS.

I think the only character where there's a legit "I don't know if kids care about them", is Wii Fit trainer. And the only reason why is no kid (probably) cares about Wii Fit. The only reason they might want that character is because they discovered her from Smash Bros. (To note, in areas like mine, common amiibo are hard to find. You'll be lucky if you can find a Bowser or Pikachu, let alone Charizard or something actually hard to find like Greninja.)

All I'm saying is, for all the people lining up, ensuring these things are scarce ... is having them all right now, for an adult, more important than various aged kids having something cool from their childhood in the future.

It just kind of sucks, and it's not specific to amiibo. It's the whole adult collector thing. It's fine, but people whom take it too far by ensuring they have a supply network or want to flip them are destroying whatever charm that thing had.

I'm not saying people need to stop collecting or anything (who am I to say that?), I'm just saying ... maybe people should keep all this in mind before they go overboard on being a crazy collector about it. Collect, sure, but do it without the scorched earth approach so other people, like kids, can easily get a wider selection of characters that they may be after.

At least until the craze dies down and the stocks have a chance of sticking around for more than a couple hours.

Totally agree with all that from where you started with the 'all I am saying...' bit as it's right. Amiibo, old video games, action figures based on those from the 80s, etc. There's many levels of abuse out there and it's gotten so bad with the scorched earth tactics to suck it all up so you can have a horde to overcharge or trade with is just screwing every legit child or parent out of something they want (need) to find and no longer can to satiate some pricks greed.

Just a note, I've heard they're limiting you to three packs per person, so if you order more than that they may cancel the order.

Got Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and 2 packs of Amiibo Cards this morning. My local target set a two pack policy, which wasn't bad in my opinion. They only had one box so I didn't want to be that filthy reseller ruining everyone's fun.

Anyone else picking up the game and such? I'd love to play with you all!

I ordered the game online so I could get a bit of a discount, but they haven't shipped it yet :? That and three packs of cards should be here some time next week.

Walmart did actually have a box of cards this morning, but they didn't have them out yet. The one guy working this morning didn't think they were even supposed to be released yet, but he found a box of them under the cash registers and they rang up, so I do have one pack....just no game to use them on yet

Assuming the cards are easier to come by than the amiibo figures, I have a feeling it's going to be easy getting duplicates of these things. Perhaps when we start getting extras we should post lists so we can trade with one another.

It looks like the cards are still in stock at a lot of retailers, so that's a good sign, I think.

Picked up four random packs locally (three are still in the mail) and only ended up with 2 duplicates, which I didn't think was too bad so far. Though, I'm sure it'll get worse the more packs I buy.
