Re: Amiibo!!
So when Mario Maker/the anniversary amiibo came out. I went to go to our local Meijer 24-Hour super store. I get there about 15 minutes to midnight to grab my copy of the game and an amiibo, only to find a line of 10 young adults waiting. I asked what they were wanting and they all said, amiibos and the game. I ask the clerk how many they have of each and they did not have enough to meet all their needs. I was panicking. How could this have happened!?
I serendipidously receive a text from an old co-worker/friend of mine who works at a different Meijer asking if I was going to get any amiibos. I said YES! The anniversary one and Mario Maker. He had 3 unaccounted for at the moment and only 2 people waiting who were not getting that in particular. I rush down there and get there at midnight. More people seemed to have gotten there, but they didn't want the mario amiibo. I get to my spot in line and the person in front of me, who was my friend/co-worker took the last one... to mess with me. He then turned around and just handed it to me, not knowing that my birthday was the next day.
Was so happy.
Strange side-note, a while back I posted this huge infuriated rant about an idiot who buys game systems in duplicate to sell for x10 their retail value in 5 years and we would just hoot and holler at each other because he would constantly challenge me in my knowledge of stuff, telling me things like, Panzer Dragoon Saga is not rare and that he has 3 copies of it and how the Saturn is a garbage system with no good games and there is nothing collectible about it blah blah blah.
Anyways, he was there! When I came in I saw friend/co-worker and was happy to see him. We gave each other a friendly man-hug and the kid responds with, "Well someone's excited," in a cynical douche way. My response was, "Yeah it is called being happy, you should try it some time. It is fun." So I am talking to friend/co-worker about why Mario Maker is going to good and just enthusing and the kid offhandedly says AGAIN, "Looks like someone needs some parental guidance." Huh? The kid was trying to buy ALL the amiibos to resell, because of course, he is an asshat, but they wouldn't let him.
Even weirder was that his girlfriend was with him stroking a 10 inch General Grievous action figure. Not one they were buying, just one that she had and was holding it close to her just petting it.
People.....man.

I hope they do a toon(wind waker) Ganon for some reason eventually (I know he's not in Smash) but it would look nice with Link, same with Zelda too.
I'm surprise to find there doesn't seem to be many 30th Anniv Classic Mario amiibo to go around. What the hell is up with that? It's Mario, nothing obscure. It was my first Mario experience and NES game I played too 30 years ago so I want the little red/brown character.

Re: Amiibo!!
I was out and about a bit this morning. I ended up going to Target and a Toys R Us. Between the two I saw a lot of Bowser Jr at TRU, a few ZS Samus at both, 1-2 Olimar at both and that was about it. I got annoyed trying to find the 8bit Mario. Ended up after lunch calling the other Target in the opposite direction, had one, held it for me for 20min to drive up and get it. While there they had all that stuff above along with a couple Ganon's too. If I were interested in the Zelda subset of those things I'd have grabbed one, but who knows if they're gone by now since school got out hours ago.
Classic 8bit Mario in the brown and red is just cool, big too, very thick design with all the 3D pixels. It's also heavy like up there with Bowser or so.

Re: Amiibo!!
Yeah the 8Bit Mario is really hefty. I love the look and don't regret getting the traditional colors versus the modern colors for it. Glad people are still able to get them even though they scarce, they are not impossible to get.Tanooki wrote:I was out and about a bit this morning. I ended up going to Target and a Toys R Us.
