Survivor is the worst of the bunch, but hey.
For the record, the PAL/JP versions both support lightgun usage. Not for you Americans though.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
Re: resident evil X: the one to avoid
I didn't like RE3,If you go the wrong way Nemesis would kill you and it wasn't as fun,but I wouldn't say to avoid it because the story is still good.RE: Dead Aim was probably the worst one Ive played.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade
Re: resident evil X: the one to avoid
BAH! So they took the only thing worth playing for and took it out! Lame. Not to mention that according to wikipedia the second one didn't even come out in the US. I think if i ever wanted to try these games out, i would have to mod a ps2. ugh.Haoie wrote:Survivor is the worst of the bunch, but hey.

haha. Oh well. I'll still give dead aim a spin, but I'll take it with a grain of salt.DCsegaDH wrote:I didn't like RE3,If you go the wrong way Nemesis would kill you and it wasn't as fun,but I wouldn't say to avoid it because the story is still good.RE: Dead Aim was probably the worst one Ive played.
Yeah- i'm not so into that. I understand that being stalked by an enemy you can't kill provides a pretty intense experience, but if it isn't done right it could just come across as extremely discouraging to the player. I like to play at my own pace. And this goes double for survival horror. Dead Space pulled it off pretty well. *minor spoils* There is a creature that stalks you that is unkillable. However, between using stasis to slow him, and the ability to move/shoot/change up the camera makes it intense, but not impossible or frustrating.
Re: resident evil X: the one to avoid
I only played Code Veronica, and I thought it was amazing(dreamcast)
When the game ended, I really felt like clapping for the makers of the game at the credits. I never played survivor horror before though.
One thing I was wrong about RE is that I thought ammo was really scarce , like you get ten bullets for a whole level of enemies, appears I am wrong. Also I did think the larger than life bosses need a helluva beating , they only are large but easy enough to defeat. Game has great balance of challenge and fun, not stupid easy and not irritatingly difficult.
I would advice though not to play them all at once, they are great games and made over a decade to enjoy. If you play them at once I guess it will take the exciting feeling out of them, they will be boring. Too much of a good thing. I guess a lot of the excitement around resident evil is in the atmosphere and you don't want to get used to that.

Holaback: What did you blank from the bottom of the pic? nice collection of resident evil stuff though
Re: resident evil X: the one to avoid
Personally, while it gives you backstory on Umbrella, I dislike Code Veronica quite a bit. I felt the new enemies were completely ridiculous, and the main villains...a MPD-suffering cross dresser and a super-intelligent chick with a God complex...not my bag. I saw them more as a joke and figured after 3, the company was running out of ideas. If you want the whole story, you have to play bloody everything, but as for versions, I'd recommend the Dreamcast versions of RE2 and 3 because they give all the unlockables and extra stuff that the PC versions offered. The N64 port of 2 does clean the graphics up a little bit, and if you really want to try it from the get-go, you can unlock the Tofu mini-game with a cheat code.
Since nobody's warned you about it yet, you don't need to play Resident Evil Gaiden for the Game Boy Color. It's non-canon, and not really very good anyway. Also, the two multiplayer Outbreak titles on the PS2 aren't necessary either.

Re: resident evil X: the one to avoid
I was going to avoid the portable stuff all together. Though i am a fan of the gameboy, ds, and psp i dont' think that survival horror translates very well to them. You really need to be immersed in it and that requires nice sound/display not to mention the raw horsepower of a system. I'll probably take your advice and avoid outbreak too. thanks.Ack wrote:Since nobody's warned you about it yet, you don't need to play Resident Evil Gaiden for the Game Boy Color. Re: resident evil X: the one to avoid
Actually, I'm a bigger fan of the PAL covers to both RE2 and RE4, especially the PS2 version.
