SMW Return to dinosaur land manual?

Post by Sorn »

I found the box at uncletusk, and i see a UK distributor that is selling box+manual for a very cheap $65 shipped to USA (sarcasm).

Does anyone know of a US (or anyone else) store that sells this manual or box?

Thank you!

**Googles game title** So it's a ROM hack? Are manuals normally made for those? Maybe the ones sold by that UK distributor were printed by the seller, so you could ask if they could sell you just the manual?

Yes, there are a few examples of reproductions coming with full box art and manuals. This is one of them. Yes, I've contacted them and no reply.

Im reaching out to the community in hopes that someone who is more in the know will respond to me. Thank you for your input!

nes-city.com did a run of physical boxes and manuals for it. They're sold out now. And at the time it went for $35 for the two items.

You can either make your own, or buy from people whom got some of those, though it'll be at a premium as they're not making any more.

Yea, I saw that they did and are out of stock :( I was hoping it was not just a single vendor one run-off type thing! Thank you for your knowledge, I'll probably go with this UK vendor then who's going to rip me a new one for both :)

Just so we're clear, we are talking about a manual for a rom hack, right? An unofficial game? I'll be that guy and ask what the big deal is to get an "official" manual for an unofficial game? Seems to me like reproducing the manual is just as good, assuming you have a scan, right?

well, I suppose I probably could get some glossy magazine type media and do it myself :) I've not found the scan for it but im sure its got to be publicly posted. I just wanted to get something that was done right. Despite it just being a hack, I thought that it would be very cool to have a fan made CIB game to go with my mario collection. Its more of a art project than anything else, and its good to support community/fan made work. These guys put 100's and sometimes 1000's of hours into these variants, so its a matter or respect.

To be fair, other people have done professional print runs for several repros and rom hacks.
It's not like it's some crazy unheard of thing. And doing it yourself is perfectly possible .... if you're willing to design everything for print and get it professionally printed, but doing a one off is actually pretty expensive. So, it's probably cheaper to hunt down some professionally done materials.

I don't think the issue is actually "official" vs not, it's just getting some nice materials to make it a CiB game on the shelf for a very popular ROM Hack that plenty of people adore (there's been multiple large scale runs by various communities, for instance)

Sorn, no problem, I just did some searching and that's how it looks. A CiB repro run was $65 in the first place ... so, it might not be too bad if you really want it. Personally, I'd do all this junk myself, but I understand the desire none-the-less.

I've got no issue with making a repro or rom hack CIB, but spending $65 for someone to ship you a made set as mentioned in the OP sounds like way too much compared to making a one off manual and/or box. Who's to say the set from the OP isn't a reproduction (of a reproduction)?

This is what im most worried about. The only vendor I could find was in the UK and I have no idea as to the quality of the materials, and spending that much is a bit of a stretch. I can get the box and insert from uncletusk for $17 which is totally fair. Double checked the UK place, it comes about $58 converted to USD shipped.

Sketchy that these guys run box art of official boxes :/ Not too stoked on that.
