^ I couldn't get into MGS2 and I was really looking forward to it after MGS. Of course that was before I knew the story was a complete shit show. When I played MGS I just figured there was some game before it that I missed, and the atmosphere and all that was so good I didn't really care. MGS1 is probably the only reason I still dick around with the series. I am mostly enjoying The Phantom Pain but I think MGS and MGS3 are the only ones that have any semblance of a decent story.
Basically I've come to realize that in my opinion the MGS series is pretty much a collection of really cool characters trapped in mediocre video games. That's the only explanation I can come up with for why I or anyone else is still interested in them. Every game is severely lacking in certain areas, often MANY areas, yet a lot of people still go out and buy them.
I think a lot of people are just yearning for that one game in the series that will have awesome gameplay and a story that makes a lick of sense. That's why, quite honestly, I think I might like the series better without Kojima. He's a really unique developer but sometimes I think he hurts as much as he helps. I mean all I'm asking for is a story that makes logical sense and he's incapable of writing anything even close.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'm considering possibly breaking my season/episode rule since Life Is Strange ep1 is on sale for like $2 on Steam right now. Can you speak on the gameplay itself though. How conducive will this be to playing as a team? Is there much action to be done? Is there a lot of decisions to make? Etc? I don't want it to feel like one person has the controller and the other is just watching the game be played, y'know?Stark wrote: Both have 1 episode pending. Life Is Strange is also excellent and way less clunky than a typical TT game (gameplay wise).

The fact that a game exists where a ninja fights both Spider-Man and Batman makes this world a better place. Thank you, Revenge of Shinobi.

this site is great!BogusMeatFactory wrote: I am including a huge compendium of FMV games Here that you can pick through at your leisure. Some are great, some are horrible, but they give you a good sense of where FMV games have gone and where they are going and may give you some good ideas on what to play.
This is absolutely fascinating:
Return To House On Haunted Hill
• The "Navigational Cinema" technology allows viewers to make choices throughout the film that alter the outcomes of the characters. There are 96 different possible storylines that lead to one of four different endings.

Now you see the charm and majesty of the FMV game! They really are a great natural evolution of the horrible VHS games, mixing cheesy acting and dialog with light interactivity. Those that do pull it off well are absolutely fantastic, like with Her Story, but regardless of how they turn out, there is something about them that are delightful!noiseredux wrote:this site is great!BogusMeatFactory wrote: I am including a huge compendium of FMV games Here that you can pick through at your leisure. Glad to see another convert to the world of FMV. Come join J.T. and I on this magical journey!

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
oh I'm no convert! I got a Sega CD at launch, so I was playing Sewer Shark, Sherlock Holmes and Make Your Own Video back in the day. And I've been a longtime proponent of Night Trap - one of the few SCD games I still have sitting on my shelf to this day. Actually my wife has Double Trap as well, haha.
But I must admit, I haven't paid attention to recent releases. Have you ever played Project Slasher? That sounds up our alley as well!

*light bulb lights over head* Oh. How did I miss that one? And I've been playing this game since 1992?prfsnl_gmr wrote: The Terminator

It basically comes down to the mystery of the story and her calling out dialogue decisions. The beauty of this game in particular, because of the time mechanic, is that 98% of the decisions can be re-done, so if she didn't call it out in time or what have you, you can re-do it real quick. There are also a few inventory puzzles, but they're not a challenge. Anyway, my wife likes it.noiseredux wrote:I'm considering possibly breaking my season/episode rule since Life Is Strange ep1 is on sale for like $2 on Steam right now. EDIT: Also, to note, they have been releasing episodes at a good clip and the latest one has already been out 3 weeks I think, so it shouldn't be too much longer for the last episode.
