Even though I own a Gamecube, I want to at least play through the original game first before I try out the remake. I've heard that the Dreamcast does better graphics and sound then the Gamecube.

But the Gamecube version isn't a remake, it's just a port. It has rebalanced encounter rates and exp. gains and some extra content.
I've never heard of the Gamecube version having worse graphics, if anything I've heard they were polished up a little.
The music quality thing seems fairly minor, it's just a little more compressed from my understanding. You probably woudn't even notice anything wrong, I sure didn't/
They also added new content, but also has stronger censorship because of Nintendo.
I do want to play both and experience them both for myself. So, I figured I might as well start at the beginning and play the original before I play the port.
If the game is as good as I have heard from many other people, then I have no problem whatsoever in playing through it twice.

Found a decent deal on eBay. Japanese seller. Kirby's Adventure (ooops I mean 星のカービィ 夢の泉の物語) was a freebie bonus I didn't expect.
I don't own a regular Famicom so getting the Twin seemed like a better route to me than a Famicom + a Famicom Disk System. It's a beautiful console too. Gonna check out some FDS-exclusive RPGs when I get the chance.
