Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I believe there'll be a standard release, yeah. The "regular" edition is available for pre-order on Amazon, which is what I'll end up getting.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Yeah Bone's right. The pre-order for the standard is up at a couple different retailers. So no worries about exclusives. I imagine it'll be everywhere.Ziggy587 wrote:It's gonna be a standard release, right? Not like that BS release on the Wii? I definitely wanna buy this game, but it's not on my priority list right now with so many other games coming out.
I just posted about the SE because I figured it'd sell out quick.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I just meant, if I don't have to worry about pre-ordering it and be able to purchase it new for a while after it's released. As oppose to Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, where if you wanted it you had to shell out like $100.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
From what I can tell, unlike the exclusivity of the Wii game, pre-orders for the standard edition of X are currently still up on Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop and Walmart, and have been since, hrm, I'd say late August.Ziggy587 wrote:I just meant, if I don't have to worry about pre-ordering it and be able to purchase it new for a while after it's released. So I'd say you're safe. The game's not supposed to release until early December and I'd imagine Nintendo would want to have enough in stock for the holidays.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Bought a Wii U and 6 games for it.
What can I say:
Console:
really clunky software. very slow too.
controller:
really pointless gimmick. this thing is beyond useless and should definetly be dropped
for the future consoles, to lower the price of the unit.
games:
Splatoon, great fun, but I suck at it. need to watch some youtube tutorials on it.
Zelda Windwaker, still my favorite 3d zelda game, really fun, not sure if the hd graphicks were necessary, and the lighting looks really weird at points.
Super Mario 3D world: unfortunately as bland as the 3ds one :/.
and some others which I haven't played enough yet to judge them.
I don't regret the purchase, but really the hardware sucks. the games are still worth it though, imo

Dude, that's my favourite 3D Mario game ever. Yes, I prefer it to Mario 64 and the Mario Galaxy series.
Own: Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, Xbox 360

I'm with you - Super Mario 3D World was some of the most fun I've had playing a video game in years. It felt great playing either solo or with friends, and was almost enough to justify the console purchase even without considering other games.Reprise wrote:ZeroAX wrote: Super Mario 3D world: unfortunately as bland as the 3ds one :/.![]()

But everyone likes different things. If it doesn't work for him, that's ok.
I do agree with ZeroAX that the HD remake for Windwaker doesn't seem all that necessary. The old GameCube release still looks gorgeous because of the art style - but I'm not all that discerning when it comes to graphics so maybe others appreciated the upgrade more.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
It's more than just a graphical improvement though. I, for one, loved the new HD graphics and lighting effects. What I REALLY liked about the HD face lift though is that it's now widescreen.ejamer wrote:I do agree with ZeroAX that the HD remake for Windwaker doesn't seem all that necessary. There's a bunch of small-to-large additions/improvements. The biggest for most people is probably the addition of the fast sail. I know a lot of Wind Waker veterans say they didn't need it, but there's a lot of people (myself included) that feel it makes the game a lot more playable and enjoyable.
The whole Tingle bottle Miiverse integration thing is amazing. For those that don't care, it's completely optional and perfectly ignore-able. But for those that do care, it's a really fun addition to the game.
What really makes the HD remake special though, in my book, is the Gamepad. Never having to pause to look at the map is awesome. But even better is being able to switch items on the fly without having to pause. Tingle bottles are also pretty seamless because of the Gamepad.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I had Wind Waker HD, not really sure if I liked it more or not. I really had no problem using a normal sail in the original game and enjoyed changing the wind so I felt it was just a lot of whining of lazy people online when I'd see the complaints, and later all the fawning over the swift sail. I grabbed it to get it in the auction house and used it a few times when I was feeling lazy, but I'd usually stick with the original as it just was more fun and in the true spirit of the original game. The tingle bottles I had no love for and didn't much like the pop ups so I ended up if I remember right turning off the online aspects of the game. The graphical boost was there at least with some higher detail and being HD but it wasn't earth shattering either, just a nice touch.
I think anyone could enjoy either version of the game and not have an issue with playing on the GC or the WiiU and be just fine and enjoy it all the same. I think the one big benefit on the WiiU was the tablet because as you said, you didn't have to pause to do stuff.

Sometimes I wouldn't use the swift sail and waste the time sailing from A to B by reading bottles I picked up.
