Still playing Legend of Zelda. For like the 80th time.
My daughter has been watching me traverse the dungeons. She's really getting into it. "Uh oh this room is dark!" "Get the key, get the key!" She even told me that the bow looks like a "D for Daddy" which had me rofling.
Oh, but she's referring to Link as "Zelda" - this must be rectified.
Gonna head into dungeon #6 tonight.
What are you playing?

Yup the original on playstation. Fascinating in terms of storytelling and cinematic feeling... but everything else is kinda clunky. Maybe this one has aged quite a bit.
I played it a few years back and through it still played pretty well. It's certainly a lot simpler mechanically, but I still think it's pretty impressive for the time and I didn't feel like it felt clunky. Dated yes, but clunky no. Kinda like a lot of my favourite games from that era.

This is too cute. How old is she now? For some reason I didn't think she'd be old enough to know letters.
You should play the sequels with her too. ALTTP might be a good way to show her who Zelda is seeing as you meet her so early on!
Re: What are you playing?
Played more of MGS last night and im starting to enjoy it more, the ninja ciborg boss thingy was hilarious and awesome at th same time "HURT ME MOOOOORE"... Solid Snake has a whole new meaning now.

She's 2.5 years old. She knows the alphabet and can spell some basic words.
I actually made it to the final dungeon last night but stopped there so she could see Ganon go down today. Forgot how awkward the save system in Zelda is - though forgivable as it was the first game with a battery save - thankfully the Retron 5 takes care of that issue.
I'll probably play the second quest too, though I don't care for it as much.
And we will get to A Link to the Past someday! I would like to play Zelda II again soon, as I've never actually beaten the NES game (just the GBA port). That game also has Zelda early on. Sleeping Zelda...

Re: What are you playing?
isn't the GBA "port" just the NES game in an emulator w/ a different resolution?

Twin Snakes on Gamecube. Updated engine that meshes better with the rest of the 3D games (more or less the MGS2 engine, so you get first person aiming n' stuff).
RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Kick it old school and play some other PS1 titles first beforehand - it helps to drive home just what that game was doing in its time. By modern standards it's clunky but it's one of the most forward thinking games of its time with an attention to detail that's still very impressive.
With regard to that though, try Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake via the HD collection or MGS3 Subsistence. A fair bit of what MGS did was done in that, in 2D, years prior.
Re: What are you playing?
All good advice, but I decided to play Half-Life instead.

Re: What are you playing?
Twin Snakes is a tad expensive, but really great.
I'd say either go for the PS1, or if you have a Dreamcast, play it via Bleemcast. It does look better on the Dreamcast.
Been playing a lot of racing games. Andretti, Lotus, The Duel II, Super Hang-on, Rad racer, Out Run, and F-Zero to name a few.
I have Le Mans for the Dreamcast, but I'm itching for Gran Turismo 2 for the PS1.
Might hit up GS and see if there are any good driving simulators for the 360.

A wise choice.

Zelda first quest = DONE.
On to the sadistic second quest.
