After more and more options and the stylistic influences from Mario Paint and the Amiibo functionality and the 4 different mario gameplay styles, I was convinced! Can't wait to play it and share with you guys.
How in the world was I more optimistic than you!?
Well that's the thing! I really believe that a good 90% of the levels you experience in the game will be garbage. People will make the auto-run levels, impossible unless you know the gimmick and poorly played out game. Few people have the skill to make a Nintendo level platformer.

Here is the thing, though, that 10% is going to be spectacular! Also, you get to play your friends levels and make your own. I mean, you can record your own sounds and have them play (not in the uploaded stuff, but your saved stuff) and you can really make some interesting series of levels that you can subjugate your friends to, which I plan on doing!

There is almost a game inside a game and the content is jam packed and filled to the brim with stuff that we don't even know about. Nintendo has been VERY tight-lipped about all the different features in the game, even to the point that reviewers don't mention it. Watch Youtube videos and they are like, "Yeah we can't show you this. We can't show you that."

Speaking of which, I spent a few hours binge watching people on Youtube play the game and this is what I have to say. DO THEY KNOW WHAT MARIO IS? I seriously watched them run up to a fireball and be like, "What is this!? Let's see if I can jump on it!" die and be like, "WHAAAAAT!? HOW DID THAT HAPPEN! THAT IS SO CHEAP OH MY GAWD WHAT THE FUCK!!!" They see a pit and be like, "I wonder what is down there," jump in it and die and be like, "WHAAAAATTT!? HOW DUMB! THEY SHOULD'VE PUT SOMETHING DOWN THERE!"

Then they show the levels they make and they play an underwater level with a penis made out of blocks and a goal post. That's it....just that.

Don't watch them....seriously.... save yourself the sanity.

I want to see if I can make an adventure game out of Mario Maker.

From what I've heard too, the rating system is bullshit. The more popular levels are gonna be the ones that have clever names or some gimmick. Your level, that's on par with a Nintendo quality level, is gonna be bumped all the way down.

I think there will be communities that spring up that will be around those true Mario-style levels and they will get played there. If there is a popular Youtube personality that does a genuinely good level, it will be popular and there will be more imitators of that style and the community will be better.

I get that you can have wacky and wild levels and gimmicks and that is fine, but I would like to see some real challenging mario levels that don't rely on cheap tricks and traps.

Whatever the case may be, if people have fun, it is a winner.

With all of this Mario level editing speak, you know what game I really want a release on the Wii U? N+ or N++. It's a 2D platformer with a robust level editor/creator. Completely different styles of play mind you but if Mario Maker takes off we might see other games with a similar basis get a Wii U release.

Glad to hear others are looking forward to Super Mario Maker.

I think that saying 10% of user-generated levels will be worth playing is incredibly optimistic... something like 1% seems much more likely, and then trying to find that worthwhile content seems like such a waste of time that it would ruin the experience for me.

But maybe it won't be as bad as I expect, or maybe you are just more patient when trying to track down the good stuff. They do seem to have put a lot of effort into adding content to the game though, so even if you ignore user-generated content it shouldn't be a bad deal.

Guess we'll find out first-hand in a few more days...

Sounds like someone on the board should make a thread with the best levels to try.

I agree. I think we should make a Super Mario Maker thread, and then we can all post our levels there. And also, you can post any exceptional levels you come across.

It's gonna be a standard release, right? Not like that BS release on the Wii? I definitely wanna buy this game, but it's not on my priority list right now with so many other games coming out.
