Got me beat it was a 386sx16mhz, 2MB of ram, .5 speed CD, SB Pro, 80MB hdd, and a 1.44 floppy on it. It came with everything including a bunch of cool cds, my two favorites were Manhole (by Myst people) and a game disc which had probably 50-100 later 80s games on it -- Road Runner, Skyfox 2, Captain Blood, Into the Eagles Nest, Infiltrator 1 and 2, Uridium, and lots of others. It got played to death. :) It was later replaced with something like you had in a 486dx33, same ram, same hdd I think, better cd player and a sb16. I used to build my own pcs throughout the 1990s, only recently did again with this laptop.

And now that we've gone way off the rails. Is it me or are DS games even complete mostly bargain basement dumpster priced now. I think it's in that valley of too old, but not too old so it's where many just don't care. you do have your fanboy suck ups like Chrono Trigger DS like any system would have, but it's mostly just death like the GBA is still and GB. I wonder if it'll stay in the toilet or rebound due to the massive user base it has.

I completed SSA, it's terrible. I think the mixed reviews were some people almost taking pity not wanting to just me-too the hate. There's little to like, and you don't get the mass of junk coming at you either like in the console ones. It's low detail, sparse on enemies, hard to see stuff at any distance, not fluid, just boring.

I think in DOOM 1 and 2 you get the map trick too that Duke has, very helpful. And yes despite the low res of the GBa it still looks shockingly clear. even blown up on a TV output as long as the screen isn't stretched to fit (retron 5.) It's really I don't believe too far off from the 320x240 they were designed for anyway as PC titles. You're looking at 240x160 vs 320x240 an 80 pixel difference both ways so sure it's smaller, but not deadly bad, just less clear from farther points away.

Having spent my summer building up a DS collection, it's true, right now is the best time to get into getting more games. I got Nanostray for 99 cents back in July, a complete Nervous Brickdown for under $3, and the most expensive games I ran across so far were $10 (Advance Wars Days of Ruin and Warioware Touched!)

I've seen even stalwart GBA titles cool off significantly. If you're a portable fan or thinking of becoming one, go now!

If I didn't say it earlier in here, I'm mostly a handheld game fan, more than console at least. When the N64 floundered badly in the middle of its life for over 2 years out of boredom I got hard up into Gameboy/Gameboy Color buying them regularly since they were cheap new and real real cheap used (and I got a Duo too for home play.) Ever since then I've leaned more towards handheld since I'm not TV bound, it's easier to play privately, you can do it wherever, and they get far less respect and due to size too both factor into costing less new and much more so used. I got back into the old GB/GBC stuff this year and racked up around 50 games now and barely any of them cost me over $15, and I think the most I did was like $35 on Castlevania Legends and before that maybe $20. Most of it would fall into the $3-10 range.

That's a big reason as to why I enjoy this now. I find collecting for handhelds easier as far as selection and better prices than most console stuff these days.

I also made it through the first "episode" of DNA. That first boss. A classic style Doom arena battle for sure.

I had a feeling we thought about the same on it, and good job on that with Duke. I'm like on my 3rd copy of it over the years, bought it at retail originally a decade ago now or so and I remember the boss.

There's some awesome crude Duke jokes in there i was surprised were even left mostly in since they clearly tip off the --- out word. One of them is rhyming and the omitted letters are patently obvious to anyone over the age of probably 12 what it is. :D

Hey on a Gameboy side, have any of you have any interest at all in translated games we didn't get put on high quality bootleg boards that last? When I was working on getting earthbound proto made I went label hunting, remembered a local here who is the owner of gamereproductions.com and saw on his site he got out of ghetto chopped up donor games and got into using good new parts. He got into GB and GBC. There's translated games like For the Frog the Bell Tolls, Last Bible 2, Survival Kids 2, Wizardry, Cave Noire and some others. It's game only but the price is just $30, old retail for GB games, which is nice and affordable and it would be a totally new experience. I'm really leaning on getting the Frog game Nintendo stupidly never localized that uses the Zelda engine along with Last BIble 2 (since I loved #1 which we did get as Revelations the Demon Slayer in the US.) Last Bible is a side story of Shin Megami Tensei games.

Still going through Duke Nukem Advance. I found that the engine that Torus used here and in Doom II and Ice Nine is named Southpaw. For a portable 3D game engine it had a lot of features.

I also took a detour to play Silent Scope on the GBA. It's nearly as good as its big screen cousins, and it also has a special story mode exclusive to this port.

I forgot about that one. I had that GBA game maybe a year or two ago for a little while. It was surprisingly well done, but it wore thin fast and I didn't go back to it much. It's so cheap though it's like a disposable thing to rotate in and out if you had to I guess. When I got it the game was worth like $3 and I paid $5 for a basically new quality CIB locally.

It was a $5 pickup. It has its charm. I have the DC port too, which is obviously better.

As I was looking for more GBA FPS, I came across the two games based on Ecks Vs. Sever, one that came out before the movie and the other game that came out after. they both come highly rated and reviewed, and they look decent. Past prices are good too but they're going for a bit much on eBay now.

I tried the ROM some years ago couldn't get into EvS (either.) I never had touched Ice Nine forgot about that one. There's also a 3D engine one for Kill Switch I've heard isn't too bad, third person shooter I believe. I think it may use that blue roses engine, much like Smashing Drive does ir I remember right.

I had Silent Scope on DC too and with the mouse it was fun now and again.

That supports the mouse? That's probably like many times better. I got one so I should try.

Ice Nine looks really good, I saw a video of that.

One more "episode" to go on Duke.
