I am pleasantly surprised that Logitech still makes a trackball mouse. That's pretty rad.

I have a Logitech Marble and it is good. If you want trackballs, consider also Kensington, they have several models, including two with scroll wheels and also allow to do a scroll wheel by "twisting" the trackball sphere (I prefer having an actual scroll wheel though).casterofdreams wrote:I am pleasantly surprised that Logitech still makes a trackball mouse. If you are going for the trackball for ergonomic reasons, there are now these upright mouse which let you keep the hand in a more restful position, and probably a tablet (with pen) would also be good.

y'know what's really hard to find these days? "clip-on" trackballs for laptops. I remember in the days of like Win95 laptops you'd have trackballs that clipped on the side and was still portable. Nowadays it seems like all trackballs still need deskspace - sort of taking the "lap" out of "laptop."

I've changed the topic title. Is like to discuss all mice and keyboards.
In terms of trackball mice, I have always wanted to try one out and see how it'll work out. I may take a plunge in the M570 for work.

Not familiar with that. You mean to the side of a keyboard?noiseredux wrote:y'know what's really hard to find these days? "clip-on" trackballs for laptops. If I am not mistaken, those "clip on" trackballs used a slotted card. If not, you would have issues using one just plugged into usb. You could get a handheld trackball:

Personally, I use a stock Dell USB keyboard and a logitech m100 mouse. I have used this exact same setup for the last fifteen years (since the Dell USB keyboard came out). I have a couple backups of each just in case. When editing though, I like a trackball - either Logitech Trackman or a Kingston Expert. I also use the same mousepad I have since the 80s. I should probably upgrade that.
While I like the fancy gamers stuff, I never got used to them.

My recollection of the "clip-on" I had used was that it literally clipped on to the plastic next to the keyboard, and then plugged in via serial port. But I'm sure there were card ones too, which would make good physical sense.
The handheld isn't a terrible idea.
I use a Cooler Master mouse for my laptop when it's sitting on my desk. But when portable, I've considered hunting down this Traveler 350 trackball which does literally clip on:

It's a little pricey. Any I've found were $30+ plus shipping (usually from UK). But it does look pretty solid and beats the hell out of a trackpad.
oh and to answer the new OP:

WASD V.1 104-key kb, w/ Cherry Red dampeners, and Logitec G502 mouse.
I LOVE both.

Fastbilly: I remeber seeing those handheld ones years ago. Its nice they are still around. Also on the mouse pad, after I returned the metal one I am going for a thin, wooden cutting board and adding some non slip support. I'll see if that works. If not then bare desk it is.
Noise: I have not seen those before. Still works like a trackball it looks like. At least the same concept. As for your set up that's a cool keyboard. It looks like you have spare keys. Are those extras or is your board some sort of modular set up?
