Re: PS1 games on PS3 on CRT TV
My experience is that PS2 / Component is better than PS3 / Component played on same WEGA CRT. I played R-Type Delta both ways. (Good test since R-Type is bascially replaying levels over and over again.) PS3, while looking great, nevertheless had noticeable blur in effects like explosions on Level 1 ...

Re: GOG.com Valentines Promo - Dungeon Keeper FREE
Totally late to this, but I enjoyed the heck out of buying up some PC games on GOG.com this year during various sales. (Tip, you have to keep track of the price you paid yourself, since they don't have a transaction history.) All told, $60 at GoG turned into: Dungeon Keeper Gold Serious Sam Wizardry...

Re: Balance: Backlog, collecting, supporting new games
Quick point on FAQs and Guides: for myself, I'm all for them and they don't ruin the fun. I'm playing Uncharted 1 on Hard right now and collecting all the hidden treasures. What I do is print out a list of the hidden treasures and placements from an online FAQ ...and when I get to a chapter I give t...

Re: Balance: Backlog, collecting, supporting new games
I certainly feel there is shame in using a FAQ. There are more than enough games to play. If a game requires a FAQ to be completed or even just enjoyed, then I simply stop playing it. Thanks for challenging me, but tbh, my experience is just the opposite. I set the game to hard and use a FAQ to hel...

Balance: Backlog, collecting, supporting new games
First off, I'd like to say how much I appreciate this website and community and that what follows is just my own two cents, I hope it's helpful and I've bolded my main points if you want to save time. (Also, if your main concern is backlog, make sure to read dsheinem's excellent post below, which ca...

Re: When are retro games retro?
In other news, I no longer think we should define water as consisting of molecules comprised of 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. I mean, that only hurts the water community. Water should be about what I define water, which I take to mean liquid that is clear. Take that, English language! Actua...

Re: When are retro games retro?
Well i just read someone on facebook say that the PS3 is retro. Riiiiiiiiight. Robotron, Berserk and Tempest machines were retro in a much shorter time frame. So were these home consoles . I'm not necessarily arguing that the PS3 is retro. I am arguing that if the retro gaming community wants to ma...

Re: When are retro games retro?
What is more important for considering something retro: nostalgic fondness for classic older style or tongue-in-cheek goofing around with kitschy old style? Neither. While both are relevant to retro, retro can't be exclusively about nostalgia, which is subjective based on the gamer. And, as you say...

Re: Looking into buying a PS3...
I got the Last of Us Bundle, no regrets at all. If you don't want the Batman Origins game you can trade it in for $26 (current deal, not sure for how long) on the spot at GameStop for used game in store credit. (That'll get at least one decent game, maybe two or three, depending.) That basically get...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Picked up 250 GB PS3 Super Slim with Last of Us / Arkham Origins at Gamestop on Black Friday for $199. After doing a bit of research online, realized that I'd really rather have the first two Arkham games than Origins. Strolled into Gamestop with the Origins disc (it comes in cardboard) and got $26 ...
