Dementium Remastered to 3DS, Survival Horror

Post by Jagosaurus »

I posted this in the Nintendo Direct thread but felt it deserved some attention as the 3DS horror library is slim.

Developer Renegade Kid previously released a remastered version of their 2009 DS FPS title Moon (now dubbed Moon Chronicles). See this thread to catch up on this:

Their 2007 first person DS horror title, Dementium The Ward, will now receive similar treatment. Renegade Kid is following this model once they receive right back from the publisher.

Teaser trailer:

The first game in the series will be getting an enhanced re-release on the 3DS eShop, boasting 60fps visuals and full auto-stereoscopic 3D support

Moon Chronicles is full screen & silky smooth. I expect the same treatment this round.

Possible same treatment for the DS sequel, Dementium II (2010), & a new third game.

Assuming Dementium is a success on the eShop, we may also see the sequel get the same treatment — as well as an entirely new third game, although Watsham is keen to stress that the latter isn't going to happen "any time soon".

Here's to hoping Moon 2 & Dementium 3 see a physical release if made... or possibly a Moon/Dementium collection on a game card.

Until then I'll be showing my support & DLing the remasters & even possibly picking up the original physical copies on DS. I'm a suckered for a unique experience.

I'm going to venture a guess a download only thing again like Moon which is 100% regrettable. Games like these need real releases to help round out the library more to have a better mature presence in the public eye. If these every hit a game card, I'd buy them as they came out, but as a download, unless I can somehow earn free credits, it won't happen.

I'll agree, looks like it'll be DL based on the fact all of RK's recent new works (not just these remasters) are DL only. Would love to see a Moon & Dementium collection with new releases.

Dementium 1 & 2 Remastered physical copies releasing along side Fatal Frame WiiU would be a smart move.

Man, even if was Moon 2 with a DL code for Moon Chronicles. RK & Nintendo are missing an opportunity here IMO.

Also agree they'd do a lot for the library perception as a whole with a physical release.

Do you own the DS games?

When I had DS games I had played a little of Moon and owned the first Dementium. I never played the sequel but I followed it a lot so I'm familiar enough since the media spoils most stuff these days.

The system badly could use some T and M rated stuff to show it's not a kids toy against the tablet or Vita even.

I dig Moon. It could use some enemy variations. The music is awesome in spots but they go for the ambient sounds which is okay but no Quake.

As someone who has never played Dementium, I'm debating on picking up a physical DS copy while it's still cheap new or waiting on the remaster DL.

I remember the great reviews & was surprised it was on the DS. Agreed it'd help the perception of the 3DS as a solid M rated titled.

My understanding was that D2 is superior to the original, so don't play them out of order. The problem with the original was a brutal save system and so many ways to die in that game. It's no Dark souls, but it's dicey because you can lose an entire stage of progress and have to do it all over again. It was pretty messed up spook wise, some really nasty and weird mutated/nightmarish creatures, a good overall atmosphere and story too. D2 made a more forgiving save and tweaked some other minor grumbles people had if I remember right.

If they don't release any of this physically, it will come down to probably getting just MOON and only if I have spare change on a points card if I go after some Sega classic or that Kirby 3D Adventure NES remix I never picked up but it's super unlikely which sucks, but at least I can't say I've never touched it before at least.
