There could be a problem with one of the ROM chips. Either a manufacturing defect or damage from being dropped or static zapped. I suppose it could be some sort of very odd glitch if you have Everyone at just the right level, a specific number of hit points, and x widgets, y doohickeys, and z thinga...

Do they have anything they can hook up? Surely they have a DVD/BR player at least they can hook composite and pop in a disc with a still menu with solid vertical lines to give an evaluation or take a picture for you.
