Anyone who owns a Wii and an SD card should have the Homebrew channel installed. Period.

I've owned my Wii for almost two years (in Feb) and this is the best thing I've done with it so far. Homebrew and emulation are top notch, not to mention media playback. The 360 is really picky on what sort of files it can play, so loading a movie off of the SD card in the Wii is wonderful.

It takes a Wii, an SD card, a rental of Twilight Princess, and three minutes. Do it. Now!

So what method did you use? The homebrew pack generator or did it manually?

I think the latest firmware update makes the homebrew channel not run.

That is true and not true

If you run the latest update it kills the twilight hack and any future installations of the homebrew channel.

IF you already have the homebrew channel on your Wii you are good to go and it will still work. You will however need to use the WAD manager to install games or programs because you can no longer use the twilight hack.

Also I would recommend installing the backup channel !!!!

First I did it manually, but then I stumbled upon the hombrew pack generator and added emus and such that way. Then I figured out how easy it was without the pack generator, and just downloaded and added programs myself.

This is especially nice with NES and SNES roms. My snes roms play perfectly with the wiimote, so I don't have to bust out the Wavebird everytime I want to play a Super Nintendo game. I have no idea why Nintendo crippled the Wii Store downloads this way. I feel ripped off when my free version of Super Mario World gives me multiple save states and lets me use the Wiimote, while my Wiiware version I bought has less features.

Soon enough, I will set up a N64 emulator and I will just use my Wii to play any and every Nintendo game. Sweet deal, I say. Not interested in backups, though. If I buy/rent Wii games, I don't really see a reason to dump them on an SD card.

As said before, it is nice that once the Homebrew Channel is installed, all you need to do is add programs to your SD card and it will load up through that channel. Really professional looking as well. I am thinking of throwing this channel on my niece's Wii, since they don't have internet and don't play newer games. We'll see.

Are you referring to the latest update?

If so, it looks like I won't be running any homebrew channels on my Wii.

Its funny you say that.. I tried it on a whim and it worked with no issues. I went to the system menu and made sure I was on 3.3U and then got my SDCard and my copy of Zelda and it installed with no issues. The main reason I think it worked is because I have a D2PRO chip installed and I think that helped to bypass the Twilight Hack in 3.3U. But I'm just talking out of my ass since I don't know the real reason why it worked.. All I care is that it worked. I'm making a DOC on the install process for a few friends, I'll post it when I'm done.
