Shenue on the Wii?

I was browsing around Kotaku and found this:

Look, I'm so on the fence about posting this my ass cheeks are dotted with splinters. But hey, it's Shenmue, and there's precendent for this kind of business on the Wii, so who knows. Scandinavian games mag Gamereactor have heard that Sega plan to release Shenmue on the Wii. Not a new Shenmue, however, just Shenmue 1 & 2 bundled together, with added (no doubt waggle-intensive) minigames thrown in. Would it sell? Of course not. Would it get certain areas of the internet all giddy with excitement regardless? Of course it would.

Link to the Kotaku article.

I hope this isn't a repost, I did a quick search and found nothing. Maybe if this sells well (if it's actually being released), there could be a Shenmue 3. ;)

Ever since getting my Wii I have thought that adventure games like this or SCUMM games could be revived on the Wii... but I want new games not re-releases.

Well, if you buy the re-releases, there'll be new games. ;)

I will purchase it for that reason and the fact that I never beat the first one and never played the second.

This would in many ways be a smart move for Sega - and wouldn't require to many resources. Graphics and audio could be left mostly the same (mabey with some enhanced AA and draw-distance and what not with the extra power the Wii has); and Dreamcast already did 480p via VGA. Only thing I could see adding is a widescreen option. Both games could fit on one dual-layer Wii optical - and without the need for redunant data on multi-disc games - mabey they could even fit in the Japanese audio tracks. Only big changes would be adding in motion controls.

Sega can put this out with little effort and money. It won't matter if it only sells 10,000 copies if they have three guys spend a few weeks porting it, tacking on some waggle, and calling it a re-release of a cult classic.
