VC and Wii Ware

Post by SpaceBooger »

With Racket getting a Wii... It made me think about downloading games.

I am a big fan of downloading games, but sometimes I cant do it...

I downloaded Paper Mario, because I dont have the cart for my 64 but for other games?

I find it hard to download a nes game that I can play on my NES, PC, and DS.
So my question is, do you download Virtual Console games and if so which ones and why not play it on other systems?
I am thinking about getting Neutopia or Neutopia 2 along with The Dynastic Hero for the TG16, are they worth the $6?

And then to Wii Ware... I only have Lost Winds... what other games are worth it? I was thinking about Gyrostar and Wild West Guns.

As far as Wiiware goes, I personally really enjoyed Pop and Toki Tori (damn hard game). Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People is a pretty good choice if you ever liked the Homestar scene and World of Goo will be godly if it ever comes out. FFCC:MLK is good, but if you'll be pretty disappointed if you don't buy the DLC. The virtual console has never really appealed to me either, although I did appreciate the better joystick and option to send pictures to your Wii message board in Pokemon Snap.

For systems that I don't have

Post by Zandengoff »

The biggest use i have for the virtual console is for systems that I don't have, mostly the N64 and TG16. I really hate the n64 hardware and find the controller and interface a lot better on the WIi. As for the TG16, I never found the money for the initial hardware investment for the system, just buy them on the VC. I have found some good deals on there though. If you have time, you should checkout Metal Marines for the SNES. It plays much like sim city, but with a war going on in between. It also has real time fighting with the metal marines. To buy a North American copy for the real SNES would cost $40-60 at least. On the VC it costs a whopping $8.

Mario Kart 64 and Bomberman 93 are the only games I bought that I already have. I figured as a party console it was worth the few bucks - also puts the wear on those white cube controllers. For wiiware I have Dr Mario and Lost Winds. Dr Mario was an obvious choice, game of the year, Lost Winds just got boring after awhile.

I've downloaded 3 VC games: Super Mario Bros 1 & 3, and Super Mario World. I downloaded the NES games because my NES is at my Grandpa's house, and I never owned SMB3 as a kid. I downloaded SMW because I've never owned a SNES, didn't want to invest in the system, but loved playing the game at friends' houses when younger.

If they release Yoshi's Island, Killer Instinct, and Uniracers on the VC, I'll be a happy man.

I had planned to buy the Sonic games on Wii, but I realized that I had my Genesis boxed up in my shed. I ordered a composite cable a couple of days ago so I'll be reliving 3rd and 4th grade by Monday hopefully.

VC games are good for those of us who don't want to/can't invest in the hardware we missed out on in the past. Also, I'll soon be downloading the imports of SMB2 and Sin and Punishment for $6 and $12 respectively, so there is something to be said about that. Having games from multiple systems on the Wii also helps save space for me since I don't currently have a lot of it.

Yeah, I'm kinda regretting Lost Winds already. Beautiful and nice concept, but I feel like I want my $10 back.

I also got Sin and Punishment for $12. I'm still getting used to the controls, but it's cool. Too bad the Gamecube controller doesn't line up perfectly with the N64 controls, but it's still workable.

Really? I loved LostWinds and thought it was well worth it for the development time that must have gone into the game. But Sin and Punishment really threw me off, it's way hard and intense; a good thing for a shooter, but it's just so different... I guess I can never grasp it correctly. From the perspective of someone who buys full price games quite regularly I can say that the small amount of money for downloadable games has added a ton to my collection simply because they are cheap.

Ok then... now I have no idea what games to get...

Been thinking about Star Tropics (because this game emulated on the DS is garbled) along with the two other Turbo Grafix games mentioned earlier (Neutopia 2 and The Dynastic Hero)

We'll give LostWinds more of a try, but I guess it's just not what I was expecting. It's a quality product, my wife and I just haven't gotten excited about it other then the visuals and the uniqueness of the wind aspect.

I'm getting a bit better at Sin & Punishment, but it can be challenging. Did you do the training mode?
