Shinobi Legions/Shinobi X/Shin Shinobi Den moves needed

Post by marurun »

Here's the deal. Every review of this game on-line notes that all your moves are listed in the manual. I have discovered many moves, but I don't have the manual and I'd like to look to make sure I'm not missing any, but there are no FAQs or Move Lists on-line for this game. Can anyone help me out by scanning an english language manual or typing up the moves list? Heck, you could submit the first basic FAQ document to GameFAQs.com if you did.

Thanks in advance.

I just finished this game and I even figured out how to do the roll move (not even listed in the manual - although to be honest it is not that useful).

Basic: Block and crouching block (default Y, Z), jump, throw knife, magic dragon lightning (X, when you have it), sword.

NECESSARY Advanced moves. I'll start with the most relevant ones...

Double Jump: Jump, Jump again at top of jump (you need to time it properly - practice it as you'll really need this). Can do this while running (needed to complete the game) and also after a Wall Jump (not very useful and hard to pull off in a way that benefits you - better to just do more wall jumps). Can add sword (extremely useful). Can add throw knife to send fan of knives.

Run: Forward, Forward. Can add sword.

Wall Jump: Forward+Jump next to the wall.

Grab: Keep up pressed next to the place to grab. After grabbed can let go of Up. Can add sword. Usually move sideways.

Other advanced moves... From here on you don't really need them but they can be useful.

Drop: while crouched, jump (works on suitable places).

Overhead sword slash: Up+Sword. Useful. Also works while in a regular jump. With jump can be very useful in the levels with attacks from above (there's at least three of those).

Sword jab: Forward+Sword. Needs timing. Useful when pinned as it is a fast strike and you can go back to blocking faster.

Downward strike: Down+Sword while in regular jump. Really not very useful, but extremely good in a particular boss which is why I put it so high.

Sword combo: Sword, Sword, Sword (needs a bit of timing and you don't need to do the last).

Crouching sword combo: Sword, Sword while crouching.

Sword sweep (from down to up): Up+Forward+Sword. Also works in regular jump.

Jumping sword sweep: see above but easier to do by using Jump, block. May be useful on jumping defense.

Roll: Up, Forward, Down. Can add sword. Nearly useless in my opinion but cool.

Of the advanced moves, you really need to master the running double jump (can't finish the game without it). You also need to get used to Triangle Jump and you can avoid losing lives sometimes by using it when you miss a jump. You really won't get much benefit from anything else, situationally some things can be quite useful though (like Drop on some levels) so it benefits to know all you can do and it can also look cool.

Great game BTW, although it gets really hard in the end and the last level is really, really hard (including the boss fight). I managed to do it without using knives or continues though!
