After watching the awesome 10 MPH on youtube I was reminded of an idea I had many years ago. I wanted to document a road trip from Atlanta Georgia (where I am) to Alamogordo, New Mexico. Why does this matter to anyone? Well Alamogordo is where Atari buried E.T. back in the early 80s. You may have heard this idea from earlier this year. A friend of mine from college and some of his friends were going to try but they were canned right before they started (E.T.'s March). I have also entertained the idea of playing a game of Mad World with the Auburn crew to see who could bury their copy of ET first - there are two ways to get there from where we are and having two separate but intertwining stories might make for a cool story. However if the Auburn folks are unwilling to join us, I may augment my route so I can stick it to them.

So do you think it would be a worthwhile publicity stunt for our little con/groups? I know gas prices would be insane, but if there was backing it may be worth it. Granted I could just do it myself over fourth of July...

Bury his copy of E.T.? Maybe it could become sort of videogame Mecca where before every gamer dies they visit that spot and bury their copy Atari 2600 copy of E.T. after running over it with a vehicle.

Sounds like a neat idea. I like documentaries and road trips. We also have a documentary/road trip planned. I say do it!

You know, ET is shitty, but I don't think its as bad as everyone says. There are tons of shit Atari 2600 games.

I pitched it to more people and two of my friends have decided to jump on (one of which is willing to donate his vehicle). We are shooting for being there September 28th, the day there were dumped back in 83. Meaning a four day weekend. One of them came up with the name that might be the final - E.T.'s Final Phone Home. Now I get to play logistics, PR, and work for sponsors. The thought is to call Atari when we are there...

Publicity stunt for our con, oh yeah, a waste of money, probably, an adventure were we will be promoting every small town/indie thing we know of on the way, but ofcourse, and will I be pulling favors with the famous people I know on the way, yes sir. Expect a soundtrack from bands like International Groove Conspiracy, Three Quarter Ale, and After Edmund.

yeah, agreed. e.t. is just the most high-profile and probably cost the most money to produce, hence it being a COLOSSAL failure, rather than a regular failure, like, uh, most atari 2600 games.
