For any other Sega Mega Drive or Genesis fans out there, the book that was released back in 2014 as the Collected Works, is now getting rereleased under the title Ultimate Works in 2025. There are some additional titles and artwork included in the new book, including design documents and concept drawings for Streets of Rage 2 and Dynamite Headdy.

However, there's been some artwork removed from the original release of the book. Due to the change in licensing for the Ecco the Dolphin and Wonder Boy series, artwork from those games have been removed.

There are two editions coming out, one with a signed print for the JP MD cover art of Phantasy Star IV.

For more information and to pre-order the book, you can check out Volume's website at the following link:

I believe I checked out a copy of the old volume from a library and it was pretty cool. Definitely a coffee table style book. Not something you sit down and read straight through, necessarily.

That's really cool. I have the original book and it was an excellent read, even if much of the enjoyment came from looking at the high quality artwork and various concept images. I might pick up this updated version, although it sucks some images have had to be removed.

...that's awesome Note, I've been kicking myself for missing out on the original book and it's super pricey now. I'll be jumping on this; it'll pair nicely w/the EGM Compendium.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat regarding the original book. It was one of those things I saw for sale and thought to myself, I'll grab this in a week or so, and then it was gone.

I'm looking forward to the EGM Compendium as well. Seems to be a good time for gaming related books and magazines.
