It doesn't seem that long ago that the PS2 was still considered especially modern. It's about time we start discussing titles should be included in the roundup.
Feel free to list titles and if you want to write a blurb for your favorites, please feel free.

Edit: I'm going to post this Google Sheet here as a tally and my general rank.
You can see we're at 20 already and you can see which ones might not make the cut if we add more

Off the top of my head, these were the games I remember being a big deal amongst the kids at my school and in magazine adverts:
Grand Theft Auto series
Final Fantasy series
Metal Gear Solid series
Devil May Cry series
Tekken series
I won't go too much into any of them because they're givens in my eyes. Did we ever come to a conclusion as to whether multiplatform games can be 'defining'? I feel like they can, but I know others argued against them.
I totally disagree that Katamari defined the PS2 btw. Seems like a cult hit to me.

I'll try to think of some more later, but Ico and Shadow of the Colossus have to be on there.
Also Metal Gear Solid 2 was a big deal.

Thanks for reminder, there is the Team Ico thread with reply contributions that might be of help.. Good info from others in the pages. Of note, the PAL PS2 versions have additional content that can be played NTSC with an easy conversion.

I only have so much to contribute, but I'll tell you what, this is going to be an incredibly difficult article to curate. I think there's a risk it will just end up being way too long and have way too many titles on it, so there will have to be some hard decisions made. Many worthy titles may have to get honorable mention simply because you don't want a 20 page long piece. Despite not being a console I have interacted much with, the PS2 had so many games released for it and saw so much success that this article may end friendships, marriages, and even co-op gaming partnerships.

Here is one.... Everquest Online Adventures. Full featured mmo that was on consoles and only closed down last year! That is quite an achievement considering that only this generation has started doing mmos.

I think that's the other reason I procrastinated on this piece

I wonder if we could rank the top 20 (with games in a series being combined).
There's always the honorable mentions section...

And didn't the Musou genre start on PS2 with Dynasty Warriors or something like that?
