And the integrated mod browser has Sigil II in there.

Re: The DOOM Thread
I just played E1M1.
Firstly, before I even started the game, I poked around in the settings. The game froze and then crashed, and I had to restart it. But yeah, I had to tweak a bunch of settings straight away. It defaulted to my monitor's 21:9 aspect ratio, which just looks wrong to me. Also, the controls feel really floaty on their default settings. I prefer it feels the same was as OG DOS DOOM. I had to turn down the mouse sensitivity from 50 to 25, and that feels about right. I still have to tweak some more things, because it doesn't feel exactly like DOS DOOM.
The music doesn't loop properly. When a track ends, there's a second delay before it starts again. That's kind of annoying, but hopefully will be fixed in a patch.
So a while back they had to change the red cross on health packs, and they became red and white pills. Now they are back to being a cross, but green.
I might play through the games one day with the redone soundtracks, but they just don't fit so I turned it on MIDI music from the get go. There's an option in the sound menu for FM synth, but I don't hear a change in the music when I change this option.
I guess online multiplayer and the mod support requires you to log into a Bethesda account. But just starting the game and playing an offline single player level, there was no sign in prompt. So that's good, IMO. Also the game's EXE apparently doesn't have a valid digital signature.
But I don't mean to hate on this release, these are just some things I've noticed so far. The package seems really nice. It has a game selection menu similar to Castlevania Collection, I guess that was the kind of thing they were going for. Although I'm baffled why they call it DOOM + DOOM II, they really should have called it DOOM Collection or something. I ignored it when I first saw it, thinking it was just DOOM 1 and 2. Luckily I saw a trailer for it and realized it's so much more.
Oh, and I haven't tried it yet, but the DOOM II Master Levels was one of the games you can select from the main menu. These levels have been a pain in the ass to play in the past. Mostly because you can really only play one level at a time from a pistol start. So I wonder if they turned the Master Levels into a proper game.

Re: The DOOM Thread
I've tried this recently, but I was upset when I realized that in order to load mods, I have to wait until it gets uploaded to the community mods. And more than likely one wouldn't be able to combine mods, like how I sometimes like to do. Like adding a gameplay mod like Bullet-Eye or Alice: Toys of Madness with level packs like Compendium or megawads like the Evilternity duology or even the GLUT of community projects and maybe other random shit like a gore mod, Corruption Cards, GunBonsai, a monster randomizer, a music pack and random QOL mods (damage numbers, enemy health bars, minimap, etc).
But I hope the person behind Wadsmoosh can throw in support for Legacy of Rust.

Re: The DOOM Thread
I just played the first level of the new episode Legacy of Rust. Wow. Fantastic first level. I mean, it wasn't the best level in terms of how much fun it was to play. But it had so much effort put into it. I don't know what the story is for this episode, but it's clear that you start I guess on Mars and then go through a portal to Hell at the end of the level. It was really well done.
edit: Holy cow, the second level of Legacy of Rust is really hard!

Re: The DOOM Thread
So I really loved the opening of the Portal at the end of E1M1, but yeah, the ramp up on E1M2 is massive. I died a couple times and called it for the day, don't feel like save scumming.
Re: The DOOM Thread
More DOOM news...

https://x.com/LimitedRunGames/status/18 ... 6740703719
Limited Run Games will re-release DOOM on SNES in 2025, with improvements. Apparently it includes Thy Flesh Consumed as well as the cut levels from the original SNES release. So those "14 new levels" might not actually be new, just 14 levels restored to the SNES version. Also apparently this will use a custom beefed up Super FX chip.
Is it me, or does the blood splatter cart look stupid? There's only 666 copies of that edition being made, and I bet it'll cost $666! I'd go for the standard edition, if I decide to purchase this.
edit: The second level is still plenty hard on Hurt Me Plenty.

The first level was a leisure play, so the second level just totally blindsides you! I was playing on UV, but maybe I'll switch to HMP at least for my first playthrough.

Re: The DOOM Thread
I do think the bloody SNES cart looks a little goofy. I actually thought it was a light blue & red camouflage pattern
. Reportedly the controller rumble support and Super FX3 specs will be released to the community. Will be interesting to see what develops from that longterm.
Okay ... so I'm a little confused by the support of new mod browser. What's the process for "them" (Nightdive? Id?) to add more mods into browser. Love the idea and a lot to choose from already, but seems vague on how & when additional mods could (will?) be added in the future. Great to see this on console!
I'm familiar with the usual suspects (Sigil, Final, Master, No Rest). How many of these other mods currently available in browser are vastly different experiences? Doom 2's Harmony mod jumps out. Sci Fi look, different guns & enemies. Gives me of Marathon-vibes a bit.
It seems the popularity of Fallout 4 mods on console might have started a good trend
. I wish Master Chief Collection would follow (343!). So much missed MCC content on XB vs PC. Hope mod support on console continues to grow!

Re: The DOOM Thread
It's an interesting port but a dozen years of GZDoom has really spoiled me. Some really sparse options here. But for a casual way to play these this is pretty slick. Also running into mouse sensitivity issues, which is apparently tied to framerate. I saw some people suggest changing the renderer from Vulkan to D3D so I'll give that a shot.
What I do like are really simple difficulty modifier options like Pistol Start and Fast Monsters. I'd always have to manually reload the map in the console to get pistol starts. I'll wager controller support is good too, so in the extremely rare mood I want to play Doom that way, might be good to go with this version. I've done so with the Doom 3 ports, 360, PS3 collection, etc haha. So all the achievements are a fun excuse to replay for the 666th time.
Legacy of Rust should be awesome too. All these new episodes by MachineGames have been freaking great (Quake, etc. And some original 3D Realms team doing a new episode in Duke Nukem World Tour was good too). I still need to hit up the new Quake 2 episode and the PC/N64 levels. The new music remixes here are great too, from one of the old composers Andrew Hulshult himself.
Sigil 1-2 were awesome. Romero is working on a Doom 2 megawad now which should be insane, since he only did a few Doom 2 maps for the main game. Since then he's still preferred the constraints of Doom 1 I guess (he was more hands off on Doom 2 so maybe not as attached), so I hope it's a fun and interesting challenge for him to cook up bigger Doom 2 maps, utilizing the full monster roster, and super shotgun.
It'll be a challenge to get through the Doom 2 Master Levels again. Hate to say it, but I recall them being pretty awful. But I'm a TNT defender, so what can I say... maybe some here will love the Master Levels.
I haven't checked the community list yet but here's some wads I've beaten in recent years that I highly recommend if they're in there:
Arrival
AUGER;ZENITH
Back to Saturn X EP1-2
Community Chest 4
Cydonia
Doom II the Way id Did
Fava Beans
Going down
Hellbound
Lunar Catastrophe
Nostalgia 1 - 2
Plutonia 2
Syringe
TNT Revilution
Valiant

Re: The DOOM Thread
I'd also recommend the Evilternity duology, Compendium and The Sentinel's Lexicon. The last two are PACKED with dozens of WADs.
I'd also recommend Super Mayhem 17 paired up with the Super Mario Doom mod, basically turning it into a full-fledged Mario FPS. And speaking of Mario-inspired mods, check out the Golden Souls trilogy.

Re: The DOOM Thread
Thanks guys, will dig into these.
I mistakenly was comparing to the curated mod section in the last release. The latest version looks to have a custom mod browser more akin to Halo MCC custom games ... but no ability to search by name I can find. Hope that's added.
I'm sure some mods will get removed for copyright reasons in time, but seems open for now. Is Alient TC there? Always thought that conversion looked interesting. Or any other Alien inspired mods?
