What's the point of buying this? The Retron 5 does way more and can be found for around the same price.

It is a brand new NES with HDMI out. Its a FPGA that acts like the NES CPU/PPU. Unlike the Retron 5 this is a true to life NES and unlike the AnalogNT no originals were destroyed to make this happen (though most of those were original Famicoms).

Ontop of that, it is going to have non-ir wireless controllers with microswitches for the buttons.

Still seems fairly pointless, other than the scoreboard aspect of it -- that has extreme value if you're into competing for high scores and all that with old video games. It offers up nothing a majority of average old game players would care about. Not that I'm big on the R5, considering selling mine, but it costs notably less and runs 10 systems. Microswitches are fairly overrated by a vocal minority of people who want that style of control most just don't care if it works right. I'm not trying to be down on it, just realistic. It's a niche device within a niche, you really have to be a hardcore insane NES lover who wants to compete with others and could not care less about other consoles to be the target for this especially at that price.

I'd like to say that I have bought a few controller converters from RetroUSB in the past. They were always super high quality. These guys take quality control seriously.

I have bought from bunnyboy too, very professional and nice person, excellent customer service on a personal level too. I've had 2 of those old NES Powerpaks, and 3 of his carts (had DK Original Ed and Gradius II and have retained Kid Dracula) his work and quality is impeccable.

I have issues with the Retron5 for stealing emulators and lying about it. I have nothing against emulation, but that is for lack of a better phrase "shitty business practices." Therefore I will not buy their product.

So for me, I can do an RGB mod (very costly and destroys a Playchoice10 in the process), buy the analogNT at $600, or support Bunnyboy at $200. I have bought dozens of items from him over the years and never been disappointed. Every question I have had he answers quickly and to the point. Years ago I contacted him about my NES adapter not working properly on Linux like it was advertised, he emailed me within a day with troubleshooting suggestions. When none of them worked he offered to mail me a new one with a return envelope for the broken one. For bedroom business to offer that, its pretty awesome. Also he releases alot of homebrew on carts, Battlekid 1&2 and the six launch titles for this.

As for microswitches, it was more so the controller will last longer than for the perceived skill increase they give. Microswitch vs Domeswitch for longevity.

Though the most useful part for me is that I can slot it into my Red Tent and run games off original hardware, instead of a really old atom pc (atom 330).

I think my general joe blow argument is great as is yours for the more hardcore experienced users as well with specific tastes and not wanting to eat a far more horrid cost. I said it too, bunny himself is fantastic with conversation and support, no one better in that type of market other than maybe krikzz being an easy equal. I just was putting it out there his price is higher than the swiss army knife emulator of which most people won't know or even if they do, care at all about the emulators or where they came from. I've mostly fallen out of love with it as it is, just too lazy I think to unbox my original systems and shelve it for an ebay sale at this point.

I have one of bunnyboy's HDMI NES kits just sitting there waiting for Mike Moffit to get back to school (he's one of the recommended installers and goes to college 2 miles from my house)... and yet part of me wants this too. But I think I'll resist.
