I bought one and out of the box, one of the diagonals was defective. Hyperkin was kind enough to send me a replacement, but that had the same issue, just in a different direction.

They finally play-tested the third (and final) version, and while it worked better than the others, the diagonals were still wonky compared to an original genesis controller.

They look, and feel nice, but it seems like the parts they use on the diagonal pads are just not up to par.

I recommend you stick to legit Sega controllers and avoid most third party controllers.

No different than the Nintendo stuff -- Tommo, retrobit, hyperkin, they're all crap for one or more reasons. Stiff buttons, sticky buttons, problems with the d-pad in normal directions and/or diagonals, cheaply built (ie: break easy even sometimes just dropping them on a hard floor.) When you can buy a new garbage pad for like $10-15, and then buy a used original controller in good to excellent shape for the same it's just dumb to even bother with it. Couple months back I got an official 6button Sega Genesis controller for $5, was dirty quite a bit and a little bit scuffed, but I gave it like 20-30min of tear down, total cleaning every single piece and Novus to buff the plastic shell/buttons, and reassembly and it is fantastic.
