Hi, long-time lurker, first time poster. I usually seem to have trouble opening the top of GBA boxes to get the cartridge out, at least for the box style where the cartridge slot was built into the inside of the box itself, at the upper left. The top flap always gives me trouble, and sometimes the lip of the top flap gets a little creased as a result. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is there a trick to open the top lid easily?

I usually don't have a problem with the GBA box style that had a cardboard insert where the cartridge rested.

You're afraid of creasing disposable cardboard? Try a butter knife.

As Tanooki suggested, use a butter knife. Just slide it in length wise all the way. It should open up easily enough without creating any creases or damage.

Unless it is a very minty box with 0 opening bends or creases already, just be gentle with it and very very lightly squeeze the sides of the top to make getting to the flap easier and free . Any bend or creases that already exist shouldn't get any worse that they are already are.

To be fair, a lot of our young selves considered any game box to be just that. DISPOSABLE.

Now I got a few boxed GBA games -- you bet I'm hanging on to those

IMO don't store your GBA games in their boxes if you plan on playing them, I keep the carts separately in a binder using trading card sleeves and put the empty boxes up on the shelf so they don't get damaged

I've done this for quite some time too. Or I just get a spare copy to keep outside the box if its cheap enough.

I keep mine in a cheap plastic tray usually meant for a junk drawer for like a small notepad and some misc junk and it sits 4x4 gba game carts staggered(due to the lip) around and fairly deep which I'm not near at this rate. I have a smaller one about as wide as a GB/C game, have my games for that in it and I think it'll hold close to 30. They're easy flip through that way if kept in order.

If you use two fingers instead of one on any of those Nintendo boxes it'll stop it from creasing the flap. You just have to spread the force out across the surface.
