I currently have a 32 inch Toshiba 32af43 (which has a little geometry issue in the top right corner. I can't figure out how to get in the service menu, but its really no big deal) that I bought new in 04-05ish that I recently dusted off and setup a little spot for my NES, SNES and Genesis. I have the SNES and Genesis hooked up with a scart cable and the NES hooked up through A/V. I've always heard about the Trinitron's being a better TV so I always kept my eye out for one.

Yesterday I came across 2 postings on Craigslist for a Sony Trinitron. One was a 32 inch fs100 for $35 and the other was a 32 inch fs120 for $35, both within driving distance. Would I really see a difference between my TV and the Trinitrons and if so, which would be the better TV?

The Sony Trinitron is the best. Not sure if you will see a significant improvement compared to your Toshiba since all are still regular SD tubes. For a huge improvement get a HD CRT. You lose the visible scanlines, but even non HD video such as retro consoles look very good on a Sony HD WEGA. That it what I use, very happy with the quality other then the power detection chips that have failure issues.

I have a 36" Trinitron and it's over 200 lbs and bulky. My buddy James helped me pick it up off Craigslist (same, I paid like 30 bucks for it) and it took both of us AND the guy who was selling it to get it up the like 6 stairs out of his basement. Nearly broke my friend's back when just the two of us brought it into my house (he's not a big guy -- not tiny by any means, but definitely not big)

But yeah, it's just a gorgeous gorgeous tv.

Trinitrons are absolutely fantastic for retro gaming. Buy both of those units.

The Trinitron is the best possible TV to have for retro gaming, and since they are so cheap its definitely worth a shot..

I have one in my basement, I have a newer TV (settled a poker debt with a friend for it) and it does very well but the Trinitron is the best for retro games

Anyone in the Houston area who ever needs help carrying these big Triniton CRTs just needs to contact Hobie or JMustang1969. They LOVE moving these up and down stairs! Right guys?!

Me on the other hand I am not such a fan as I think moving one may have helped cause a herniated disc in my lower back that gave me enormous amounts of pain and eventually needed surgery to repair.

Well I missed out on the fs120 but I was able to get the fs100 for $20. I read that I should cut the VM option off and turn sharpness down to around 20ish percent for a "truer" picture but it just looks real fuzzy to me. I have it hooked up through a scart to yuv converter but the picture quality almost looks RF. The colors look better than my Toshiba but the picture doesn't seem as crisp.

This is a common misconception. Every TV is different. The best thing to do is get some reference images up on screen and calibrate the TV against them. Well I was able to download and run the 240p Test Patterns Suite on my Dreamcast.
I have some overscan on the top, right and bottom on my screen and the color blue is bleeding. I messed with the sharpness a little bit but I really want to fix the blue bleeding first.

I assume I can fix these problems in the service menu? I ordered a remote for it from ebay for $4.

If you look around the internet you can probably find the service manual for that particular TV as a PDF. That's the angle I would personally start working from.
