Tried so hard for the 1cc tonight... not gonna happen (tonight).
Re: 2014 STGT - Discussion Thread (recap)
My highlights were easily weeks 2 and 4. Determination, figuring out where my initial runs went wrong, impressive improvements, and a good solid arcade style joystick made all the difference.

Overall, I'm pleased with my performance. I definitely don't play as many shmups as I should. But I can totes live with hovering around the bottom or right outside the Top 10 each week.
This was fun. Less Raizing next year pls.

What I like most about this is getting pushed by people I like. It's one thing to see a 88 zillion and 3 score on shmups and be like, "I can't do that."
Seeing friends post scores that seem out of reach makes it seem more possible - the discussions that take place and then the teamwork PM's talking through things. Really enjoy this.
The only downside is not discussing strategic things with everyone. For example, noise didn't have time for Dimahoo and I heard others sorta ragging on it, not loving it at times.
There is so much to it that I wanted to share at the time, like the Pinwheel on Stage 1, the Busturtle Ruby and the best way to max out your groups in a hurry.
I discovered a ton more depth to Jamestown and I really want to spend more time with it.
Garegga - I felt bad for those on MAME, it is a different game on SAT w/the red ball option.
Deathsmiles - just so so good, everything about this game I love and I almost double my previous high be being pushed to improve - I kept learning better play strategy.

Yeah, I rarely have aspirations for a top 3 score, but it was fun to pick out the #2 person on any given team and go for a better score than them knowing that Doc had my back most weeks. Too bad some folks dropped out or didn't give it their all...but dropping #3 fixes that problem well.
And i really liked the game selection. Probably 4 better games here than in the rest of the year. Nice job, Mike.

Ugh. My dumb ass thought for some reason I had another day, and never got to post a Dimahoo score.

Re: 2014 STGT - Discussion Thread (recap)
I wish I could have had more time to play. Sadly, with Black Friday and work constraints, it made it very difficult to put any dedicated time into the game. What I did get to participate in, I enjoyed though. It also makes me feel better to know that I am not completely incompetent at SHMUPS, although I still feel they are truly challenging (which is not a bad thing).
8 out of 10, will play again!

agreed Mike, playing w/ the homeys really does motivate. It really was a great tourney this year. Made me go from 'really liking' Jamestown to just being blown away by it. And even though I missed that 1CC on Deathsmiles at least I now feel like it's totally attainable PLUS I beat the shit out of my pb score. Good feelings both.
