I would think so, but I'm not 100% sure.
What the worst that could happen?

I would suggest either hunting down PS2 experts or finding some documents on various PS2 models.

From my brief time poking around inside PS2s, I've noticed things get moved around a bit. I have a launch window model where the power supply is on the top, some later fat models have it on the bottom, for instance.

You really need to make sure the required input and output are very close, because who knows how other components were altered between revisions?

I think it's also a possibility, if you know a bit about electronics safety, to fix the broken power supply (if it is indeed the power supply). They are generally pretty simple circuits and it wouldn't take many multimeter readings to find out which component is toast.
