I think it turned out alright. Sorry for the crappy mobile phone shots and bad lighting - it looks much nicer in person. I made it out of hickory and gave it a natural finish. Astro City button layout.
My dad owns a cabinet shop so he helped with the initial construction. His planer was particularly useful since my screw-on buttons would not work with 3/4" wood.
I couldn't find any metric drill bits locally so I had to order them online. That held me up almost a week because I ordered them the Friday before Columbus Day.
Here is a comparison of the natural finish and an unfinished scrap piece.
I also had to chisel/file out the recess for the piano hinges. If I were doing this again, I'd use a band saw before putting the box together. The chisel and file worked out in the end though, it just took a while.

Wow! That looks super nice! I really like the bat stick choice. Great job! What system(s) does it work with?

The Cthulhu PCB works with
PS3 PS2 PSX PC Gamecube Wii through Gamecube controller support Original Xbox Dreamcast Sega Saturn TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine NES/Famicom SNES/Super Famicom
It can also be modded to work with Xbox 360. I am pretty sure I have seen mention of people using with NeoGeo though I am not sure how they managed it just yet (I also don't have anything NeoGeo so it isn't a big deal to me at the moment). I am told that you can also get Genesis/Master system support using an adapter like this along with a PS1/PS2 cable: http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=54

Great job, bmoc. Super clean wiring.
What did you use for your finish?

Just polyurethane. Four coats on the top. Three on everything else. I accept that I may have to sand down the top and refinish every few years if it gets super discolored from use.
