Help with original xbox! :(

Post by OogaHoogaBooga »

I recently bought an original xbox, not 360, and someone mentioned I could use gamespy to play some games online, without xbox live, but I can't seem to find them supported on there anywhere?

Is it also possible to still get an original xbox online with a new xbox live account?

Oh, and a list of still active online games could be useful...if anyone has one...or a link.

Sorry bout all the questions, but I'm mostly into dreamcast and older. :)

all the official xbox live stuff is still up and working just fine.

if you want to play online for free your google search terms should be 'xbox' and 'tunneling'

You can play most xbox live compatible games (and even some that aren't ie Halo 1) online with Xlink Kai. It tunnels packets from lan matches over the internet to somebody else using xlink. It's great. Works with PSP/PS2/PS3/360. Practically any console with Ethernet networking.

games that work with tunneling apps are "system link compatible games" some also have xbox live capability, but you are using the system link portion of the software, not a fake XBL server.

Anyone know if I could set this up with any dreamcast games too?

I wasn't actually implying that you were using xbox live or a fake xbox live server to play the games. I was just going on the basis that most xbox live games ALSO offer system link. Seeing as the netcode is practically the same for both xbox live and system link as they both use ethernet for the network. The only difference is the frontend for xbox live. I felt that this would be the easiest way to explain the way the system works in laymans terms.
