I'm amazed by how many flavors of MAME there are, just for Windows, not to mention other platforms.
Which variant(s) of MAME do you use and why did you choose that one?

I've tried a few and not been successful. That is, at least, with playing San Francisco Rush. If you know of one that works let me know!

I use MAME32, straight up. I used AdvanceMame for a while and it was fine, but with MAME32 I can avoid unnecessary complications.

Mame32Plus+ is good if you wanna try playing online multi or 2player games

For regular off line play I mostly use MameUI32, which has pretty frequent updates and a nice and easy to use interface.

I use mameox, the one with hundreds of games on a DVD. Got that installed on my hardrive on my xbox. It kicks ass. I also have Neogeo/cps1/cps2/other obscure boards emulator on the hard drive too. Classic arcade emulation bliss

Mainly just Mame32.
Would love to know what the others all are and what extra things they do or features they provide.

I don't use a variant but I use the MAME binary and then EMU Loader

It's a really nice frontend as an alternative to MAME32 IMO~
