Just like the title says has anyone picked up those new wiimotes? Does anyone think it's going to be collectable? The collector in me wants to pick these two up but the adult in me is telling me not to pick them up since I own two wiimotes. Already people are posting them up on ebay for a profit since they are only 40.00 each.

Remember all your what should I buy and sell threads?
$80 for 2 Wiimotes is too much. I guess maybe if you can really make a profit, but I would trust the adult side in you on this one and buy a game you will enjoy.

True. I am curious if anyone else is getting them though. I know there are a lot of collector's here. As for me I'm not getting them. I need that money for Xmas gifts.

Are these wiimotes limited edition or will Nintendo continue selling them ad infinitum?

Necro-bump!
Looks like I'm here to answer my own question. Nintendo still continues to sell Mario wiimotes more than a year later. New question: if the product package says, "wiiu," can I assume that this wiimote will also work with my original wii?

The Wii U labeling on Wii devices was just a branding update, it's the same Wii Remote Plus. (It even says Wii Remote on the actual controller) The Wii U is just compatible with Wii devices and Wii remote wasn't bundled with any of the Wii U sets until well after a year of release.
Something you might be interested in knowing, though, is Nintendo released two other themed remotes, Peach and Yoshi. Though Yoshi isn't available in the US, it can be imported from Europe or Japan.

That's what I assumed. I had a feeling it was the exact same hardware.
