Ever feel tired of gaming?

I remember when I was a kid I used to really enjoy JRPGs.Nowadays, I kind of need to force myself to play them.I started playing Final Fantasy VII and clocked 6 hours and i'm lazy to go on.But generally, I have problems enjoying gaming as I did before when I was younger.I especially have that problem with old games and not much with newer ones (almost every 360 game I get, I beat it).

How is with everyone else out here?

I'm new on the forum so, hello everyone, I'm CaptainSodaPop.

I think it's pretty common to struggle with playing a game (especially an RPG) for four, six, eight hours at a time - our attention span decreases as we get older, that's for sure. I take frequent, short breaks whenever I play a game, and sometimes go for days without playing. As long as you're still enjoying it though, there really isn't any hurry.

I do feel there is a point when a game starts to feel like work and I would be all like "bleh, I don't wanna play anymore". The ironic part that its always at the near end of the game.

I think that a lot of it has to do with time. When you look at a lot of the classic JRPGs, there is a lot of grind built into the game to pad the length. That grind, to a lot of people, is considered a waste of time now a days. Some people do still enjoy it, but for many, the ends do not justify the means. Sure there may be an amazing story unfolding, but it is unfolding at such a pace that seems wasteful.

Also, people just have moods. There are times when I am in the mood to play a casual game like Peggle, other times I want to put myself into a large scale game like Fallout New Vegas or a JRPG, and there times when I want nothing to do with video games. It is just a part of life to be overrun by day to day activities that you just don't have time to put into your hobbies.

Going back into college has really done a number on me. What little time I have is dedicated to studying and working towards my education. Right now, when I have a nice week before classes begin again, I have spent most of my time gaming and loving every minute of it. When school begins, though, little time is available for me to even think about wanting to play a game.

Exactly how i feel, when i was a kid, i could play for hours and games were much more entertaining, now i feel like i can play a game for 5 minutes and get an idea what the rest of it will be like.

Yep...I go through these "stages". It can be applyed to any game but lets take...Skyrim for instance since i'm playing it right now.

Stage 1: Get into/back into the game
Stage 2: (applys to games that can be modded) I figure the game can only get better modded...
Stage 3: Banging on the mods till they all work together
Stage 4: I realize I need a home for all my stuff
Stage 5: Finds a good mod home and lives with it or...
Stage 6: Mods said home to fit my characters tastes which will take forever since im a perfectionist when it comes to modding a home
Stage 7: When modded home is finally done and i'm done with testing it...I get bored of the game

In the case of games like...L4D2 which I can't make mods for:

Stage 1: Is the same
Stage 2: Kinda the same (I have issues trying to mod L4D2)
Stage 3: Plays the game for so long every single night...I get bored of mindless killing.

Every game has a different set of stages...but they follow kinda the same path depending on if I can mod them or not. For ones off the PC..well thats just the thing, they arn't on the PC so unless I can't get on the PC for some crazy reason...I don't actually spend much time on consoles. Which is a little funny since I'm collecting retro games and consoles like a crazy person...

Er...not really. I said it in another thread but I'll say it here, on top of being addicted to collecting retro games and consoles, and modding games to a degree...I'm addicted to my PC. I spend hours upon hours on it...when I could be spending it on my consoles..I just can't tear myself away.

So no lol it wouldn't help. I have to get off the PC first for them to help me.

That happens to me a lot. I was so close to finishing Infamous, but something happened and my interested just fizzled out. The last time I played it a, I had to force myself to boot up the PS3. Thing is, I was really enjoying it and I'm not sure what happened. Happens a lot more often these days.
