Wussup. Guys looking at wanting to get 480p to todays HD displays and already have a Framemeister should look into just getting an Extron RGB interface. They're cheap, and there's a ton of info on them for use with Dreamcast VGA out via VGA box. So if you already have a Framemeister and a VGA box, it's easy to get 480p using an Extron RGB interface. Unless you want to make a sync combiner, all you have to do is make a custom cable.

Here's some a cable I made using other hacked up cables. The Extron is super cheap at $20 shipped, and the cables are also cheap from sources like Monoprice and will run under $8 shipped.

Here's the vid:

So I think I want to make the jump from svideo to vga. Is there any difference than using the generic boxes on ebay for 50 bucks or using the toro? I just need audio out for the box and plan to buy an atlona upscaler for my hdtv. But then again I have vga on the tv so I don't know if the upscaler would look any better. Guess I'm confused lol.

I don't know how I missed this post. I've just got a fairly generic VGA box, and it's always worked fine for me. I've got mine running through a VGA-to-HDMI converter because my TV doesn't have a VGA port, but if yours has one, I'd recommend just using that.

Probably just do that then since mine accepts 480p. I just wondered if one of those upscalers I mentioned above would improve enough to notice. I'm just going off YouTube reviews, so you never know. Thanks for the response lol. Not much traffic in the sega sub these days.

If your TV handles the signal, I'd not mess with an upscaler unless you KNOW your TV's scaling sucks. Less devices = less lag.

That's what I'll do. Get a vga box and go see if that does good enough for me. Really I'm just trying to get my Sony wega out of the house and plug up what i use on my hdtv. Plan on going the scart route with my saturn with a scart to hdmi convertor.

Yeah, if your tv supports 480p, just leave out the upscaler. My converter box doesn't do any upscaling - it just turns the VGA signal into an HDMI signal. Looks fine on my 4K TV since it still accepts 480p.

As long as the TV's upscaler is better than yours, sure, rely on the TV. But if you have a faster/better upscaler, don't rely on the TV to do it (yeah, it accepts 480p, but it's upscaling it to max resolution.)

Cool. Thanks for the tips fellas. Never cared before so I'm just getting into the whole best picture possible for retro systems thing. And of course I'm late and missed the boat on the xrbg thing. I'm kind of behind on the newer hdtvs also. I knew alot when they first came out but skipped the 1080p generation until recently. Just didn't see a need if cable/satallite/OTA didn't broadcast in it.
