What is everyone's experience with trading games?

Post by emurozii »

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, hopefully it is. I'm just wondering if anyone's traded loads of games for other games before, and if so, how you feel about it now?

I ask because I'm going to trade my Saturn and games (the choice RPGs I've had for years, like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining games, Dragon Force, et al) for a relative's Super Nintendo with that system's top games. And I wanted to know if anyone else has done the same sort of trade, how it went, and why it was done. Personally I'm doing it for nostalgia, and because I've explored everything the Saturn has. So I thought I'd relive a bit of my childhood and get the SNES classics I used to enjoy! Of course, I'd also love to keep the Saturn but, honestly, doing so whilst also buying other games would break me financially. So for now, keeping it is kind of out the question.

How has trading gone for everyone else? I'd imagine a lot of collectors have traded with each other on here, so that's why I thought I'd ask about it!

I LOVE TRADING! Best way to get the most out of games you might not have enjoyed as much as you thought you would have.

Trading across person-to-person has pretty much worked out well for me (except for one bad trade here at RacketBoy, terrible looking cartridge that was left out of the description).

It's when you start trading at places like GameStop that it's frustrating because you get so ripped off.

Unfortunately, there's not much left that I have that's worth trading. I've traded most of my tradables away.

I'd suggest making sure the value is about equal, but other than that, what is the risk? You know the person and your getting games you want more than the games you have.

I never do it, once I have a game in my collection it's there to stay. Unless I happen to get a duplicate of course.

But it's up to you - if you want to trade Saturn games for SNES ones go right ahead. SNES is the better console anyway. 8)

Only trade what you won't regret not having. I would be mortified trading away the super expensive Panzer Dragoon Saga for a measly SNES. That game alone is worth an SNES and a dozen of the top games.

What games would you be gettingin the trade? You ythe few Saturn games you listed come to a few hundred dollars (depending on completeness and condition) I can't think of many SNES games that would fetch PDS prices (save for earthbound)

I echo your sentiments - it will be sad to rid myself of rare and expensive games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, especially since with the copy I have now my dad sort of gave to me in 2001/2002 (whenever the Xbox one came out). But although I have to now that I'm contemplating getting rid of them, I don't like to look at games for their monetary value: I look at a game like Panzer Dragoon Saga and know it's an excellent title which I've had my time with, and that's all, as I only tend to play a game once or twice, and then usually never again. I've had my fun with it, now I'd rather move on to something else. And hey, it's not like it's gone forever! There will always be these games and Saturns on eBay! They'll probably be worth more, but still.

With the SNES, I look at eBay prices now and it's ridiculous! They've gone way, way up from when I last looked several years ago! Maybe it's because the people who played the SNES as kids, like myself, are now at the age where they likely have a job and can hence go back and buy the games of their childhood?

The main two games I'm getting in the SNES deal are complete, very good condition copies of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 3. I'm not really into role-playing games, because of a lack of time, but I'd love to play these again. :) The several other games are cartridge only, but are good, nostalgic titles like Super Mario World 1 and 2, Donkey Kong Country, Street Fighter 2, Axelay and a few others. And of course the SNES itself is included, and it's got a 60hz switch, like my Saturn, which is good.

So I think it's a roughly fair deal: each of our 'lots' are about £300 overall. And from memory, admittedly, I prefer the SNES over the Saturn to boot! The Saturn is a great console, don't get me wrong, but not being a big fan of fighters and space shooters makes a lot of its best games redundant to me. Maybe I'll regret it, but as I said, I'm more about playing the games than collecting them, and a Saturn's always available online if I ever want it again! Thanks for the posts though everyone, it's useful advice and it's interesting to hear everyone else's experiences with trading!

Unless your games are disc only Japanese versions, your lot is worth alot more than 300 pounds. Panzer Dragoon Saga goes for almost that much on its own.

It's all PAL. And you're right - I'm seeing some copies go up to £200. I don't know whether that's stupid or just utterly, utterly brilliant. Panzer Dragoon Saga isn't even that rare? I last saw out in the wild only a few months ago at a local auction, although it did end up going for £100 along with a few crappy Saturn games (lots of dealers and traders). Whatever the case, I'll have to really do some eBay research before I make this deal.

When I read this I thought the game might've suddenly shot up in value, it wouldn't have surprised me. A quick look at eBay tells me that the vast majority still go for between £85 and £130 though. Just some weird outlier Buy it Nows going for the £200 amount.
