Does anyone else own a copy of Sonic Boom? It was a compilation CD offered by Sega that contained full blown versions of the songs that appear as background music for many of the Sonic games. Much of the CD contains music from Sonic CD but there are other gems from many older Sonic games as well. The CD contains about an hour and a quarter of music and I listen to it quite often. Copies of the CD pop up on ebay and Amazon now and then.
I recall much of the music in the original Tomb Raider and Ecco games as being quite good as standalone music too, there are probably lots of other examples. Are there any other video game music compilations out there that are any good?
Video game music as, well, just music
No, not that one. There was a music CD title Sonic the Hedgehog Boom, usually simply called Sonic Boom since "the hedgehog" appears so small in the title. It is housed in a simple jewel case with a large picture of Sonic on the cover.kyuu wrote:You mean the Cd which was with the Sonic 10th Anniversary?
If yes, I have it.
I have the 10th Anniversary item too and I didn't find the music compilation on the included disc to be all that great and if I recall correctly it did not include ANY music from Sonic CD. Sonic CD has, in my opinion, the best music ever included in any Sonic game. Sonic Boom was released for direct purchase from Sega not long after the release of Sonic CD so it would have predated the 10th Anniversary disc by many years.

I never really liked it. I think the Genesis games had way better music. It seems like Sonic CD's score wowed people just because most of them were hearing streamed 44khz music for the first time in a console game. Strictly compositional, it's just not as good. And the theme song, of both regions, is just god awful.Scooter wrote:Sonic CD has, in my opinion, the best music ever included in any Sonic game.
