I just won a big on a complete Nights into Dreams for Sega Saturn. I keep seeing it listed with the control pad with an analog stick like the N64 and Dreamcast have. Is this required to play the game? Those are pretty pricey on eBay!

Congrats on the win, did it come with the controller?

I do not own a Saturn, but from what I played from the PS2 and Wii versions you really need an Anaog stick to get the most out of the game. I think vlame is right, I don't see how you can do the rolling spin moves with a DPad.

It isn't required, you can play the game with the normal controller and d-pad, but it's highly recommended you purchase the 3D analogue pad. Playing the game with a d-pad is really difficult as the game requires fluid control.

Okay, not a problem. Glad I can play it a little with the normal one, as the analog controller is really outside of my budget at the moment. I'll add it to the list (which always seems to grow... never shrink... hmmm)

As has been said, you can play it without the 3D controller (as I did as a kid) -- but try not to write the whole game off if you don't like it! It was built from the ground up around that controller, and the main reason why it's maintained such a cult following is because the intended control is flawless. It's a great game regardless, but just keep that in mind if it doesn't click for you!

Hope you enjoy it, it's one of my all-time favorites! :)

Like others have said, it doesnt need the 3d pad. But the experience is so much better with it.

DAMN! I didn't know it costs that much now.

I have about 5 or 6 of them! In varying conditions.

THIS. I think its also the reason why Wii Nights gets bad reviews. Even the Classic Controller (which many might not have even tried) does not offer a smooth rotation. The Wii game really shines with an adapter coupled with a Sony Dual Shock.

NiGHTS into Dreams is still one of my top 5 games of all time but I don't think even the saturn 3d controller could of saved nights: journey into dreams lol waaay too much fail going on in that game

Glad I picked up the 3D control pad when I did - they've more than doubled in asking price for a brand new one. Congrats on snagging the game, btw! I always thought it was fun running away from the clock while you are on foot, lol.
